...More than half -- 58% -- of voters in the canton, or state, of Geneva, voted to set the minimum wage 23 francs an hour, the equivalent of $25 an hour.

The initiative was backed by a coalition of labor unions, and is expected to affect about 6% of Geneva's workers when it takes effect Nov. 1.

Did you live elsewhere in Switzerland or Europe?
(Asking out of actual interest)

Ok, this is where yo run off the rails. People with common political sense know that almost no one makes $7.25/per hour, and they also know that is a ridiculously tiny amount in 2020. People with common sense know that stagnating wages hurts gdp growth. It also makes Republicans who want to keep the current min wage look like completely out of touch idiots. The optics are horrible.

If you want people to work, get of welfare then we have to raise all wages in the USA. The best way is to vastly restrict LEGAL immigration. Wages can't be driven high enough. Is the only way to prevent the socialists from taking over.

Wages are so depressed I am surprised that a Communist take over hasn't already happened.

Switzerland yes, but not much time in Geneva.

Many political parties and of course the three languages.

Swiss German, French, and Italian?

Did you enjoy your time there?
The people?
Were you in finance?

Yes, I also lived in other cantons of Switzerland. And in France.

Yes, regarding the languages.

Most are well-mannered. Many world-wide travelers. Can get sketchy late at night.

Not in finance, but once had wurst with Russian finance guy, and traveled alongside many.

Eclectic architecture among the older structures was not uncommon.

Why are voters so greedy? Why not $100,000 per hour?

To live, as an American, I’d have to say Geneva. After 7 years of living in Germanic Switzerland, being blonde and not looking “unSwiss,” I was always treated as a foreigner. And I even learned their dialect. Once we moved to Geneva, though, where there are more foreigners than Swiss, I felt like I at least belonged.

But I did enjoy cantons Zurich, Zug, and Luzern for their beauty and the homeyness and simplicity of the life. We definitely went to Zurich for nightlife and movies. Living in the countryside was so gorgeous though, and it was always only an easy train ride to the city.
