Gabbard gains GOP supporters for her push for U.S. to drop charges against Assange, Snowden

Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, Hawaii Democrat, has gained support from Republican colleagues in calling for the U.S. government to abandon its criminal cases against Julian Assange and Edward J. Snowden.

Along with Rep. Thomas Massie, Kentucky Republican, she introduced a resolution Friday urging the U.S. to drop all charges and efforts to extradite Mr. Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks.

Rep. Matt Gaetz, Florida Republican, joined the Democrat days earlier by co-sponsoring a similar resolution asking the U.S. to drop its case against Mr. Snowden, who is also wanted for leaking.

Mr. Assange, who launched the WikiLeaks website in 2006, and Mr. Snowden, a former intelligence contractor, each face criminal charges in separate cases related to leaking classified information.

Both men have been charged in federal court in Alexandria, Va., with violating the U.S. Espionage Act, and they face the possibility of hefty prison sentences if put on trial and convicted.

Mr. Massie and Mr. Gaetz agreed with the Democrat about dropping the cases against Mr. Assange and Mr. Snowden, respectively, giving each of the congresswoman’s resolutions bipartisan support.

“The ongoing attempts to prosecute Julian Assange threaten our First Amendment rights, and should be opposed by all who wish to safeguard our constitutional rights now and in the years to come,” said Mr. Massie. “I join my colleague, Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, in calling for an immediate end to all charges against Mr. Assange.”

“Edward Snowden has been unfairly villainized and persecuted for disclosing the true scope of illegal government surveillance. This is unjust,” Mr. Gaetz said in a statement. “Charges against Snowden should be dropped.”

...she is too far left but at least she isn’t nuts like the rest of them.

She is the ONLY Democrat I can say good things about, at least she has principles and the female equivalent of brass balls

Snowden and Assange engaged in horrible betrayals of the country and should not be rewarded, but shot

WWII is over, PIF. The enemies are now inside the gates...

I would definitely give Julian Assange a pass, especially if he gave up where the DNC emails came from....

I read somewhere that if convicted Julian Assange is likely to be sent to Supermax Prison in Colorado...

Whatever he might have done, he doesn’t deserve to go there...

The dems are scared of them having the goods. They released information showing how the government is crooked and working against the citizens. They exposed the deep state.

I am not a lover of Tulsi in any sense of the word. But I fully agree with her on this.

Assange and Snowden are most certainly Enemies of the State - The Deep State that is.

An enemy of our enemy is our friend.

She has some positions we can agree on.

She's against endless wars and the military industrial complex.

All whistleblowers exposing everything and anything should be executed for a crime?

If Gabbard continues acting like a DINO, she may find her name on the “scheduled future suicides” list.

First you have to realize the NSA has been collecting all electronic emissions worldwide since the 1950s. All - including US landline phone calls. Everything. Doing and finding things in all that traffic is another problem which the advent of computers in the 60s helped sort.

Eddy Snowjob was not a so-called whistle blower. He only ‘exposed’ what had been public knowledge for 45-50 years, had been written about in various articles and books. That people had forgotten or never knew is on them (you).

He worked for the Chinese. He exposed all the Methods, Means the US used for Intel collection offshore. He exposed the team names, duties, missions objectives, personal names, addresess of people working overseas to collect Intel - many were executed as a result.

When the Chinese were done with him, the kicked him out and he sought refuge in the Russian embassy in Beijing from were he was taken to Russia. He gave them the same info; that info was later distributed to Iran, ISIS, and AQ.

What damage he did to the US Intel community was incalculable - all the millions and billions used to create Methods, Means, and recruit the human operatives was destroyed; then more millions and billions had to be used to recreate as mush as possible. He is right up there in the top foreign spies with the Ethel and Julius Rosenberg, Aldrich Ames, Robert Hanssen and Co. He effectively crippled critical US Intel gathering for years.

Do you think that the meta data collection exposure of your phone calls was worth all that destruction, when you could have learned about it all from a trip to the local library decades ago?

Yeah I noticed. What WWII has to do with Eddy Snowjob being shot for the traitor has to do with anything I can’t imagine - boiling in acid sounds better to me anyway. Inside the gates is always were the spys live.

Yep which is why she is hated by the Dem establishment. They even denied her a speaking slot at their convention despite winning a delegate. First time its happened apparently.

“She was devastating in her attacks on Kamala and the mayor. Why did she never attack Biden?”

i’m thinking she went after the ones that were the most dangerous and most outspoken and who were strongest in the polls at the time, and probably thought biden was an old babbling fool who didn’t have a chance anyway and therefore not worth her limited debate time ...
