Chris Wallace on debate: 'I'm disappointed for the country'
the Blaze ^ | 09/30/2020 | Chris Pandolfo

The Associated Press reported that one idea being toyed with is to allow the moderators to shut off the candidates' microphones if they become unruly while their opponent is speaking.

Wallace is vehemently opposed to the idea.

"As a practical matter, even if the president's microphone had been shut, he still could have continued to interrupt, and it might well have been picked up on Biden's microphone, and it still would have disrupted the proceedings in the hall," he said.

He worries how the American people would react to the debate moderator silencing either one of the candidates at his or her discretion.

The last part. But not because he's interested in free speech, but I suspect in the back of his mind is what happened when Gingrich was censored on that "Outnumbered " episode.

Wtf is he only talking about the president. Ari Fleischer reviewed the debate and said Biden started the interruptions.

This constant pretending the president is a problem is pure evil, and will probably elect an invalid.

Yes, the moderator’s microphone should be shut off.

Chris Wallace will never admit or realize what he did wrong. There is a lot of constructive criticism out there that he should have to answer to. Someone needs to open Chris’ eyes. He was terrible.

Chris, you don’t care about the country. If you cared about the country you would respect the man that 63 million people voted for. The reality is that you have disdain for them - because you think that you and those you align yourself with are better than them. You’re wrong.

Yes, I noticed how Biden was never rude or interrupted when PDJT was answering.

Currently, the second debate format is town hall, with so-called undecided voters supplying the questions.

Here’s my idea. Each candidate supplies 10 questions for the other candidate. Then we would be assured that the candidate did not get them beforehand. And if someone wants to be president, they should be able to handle the other person’s questions.

How many times are we going to go through this? Nothing will change until the Republican party forces it to change.

The Republican party needs to walk away from the Commission on Presidential Debates. It wouldn’t be the first time. Remember the League of Women Voters?

From Wikipedia:

In 1988, the League of Women Voters withdrew its sponsorship of the presidential debates after the George H. W. Bush and Michael Dukakis campaigns secretly agreed to a “memorandum of understanding” that would decide which candidates could participate in the debates, which individuals would be panelists (and therefore able to ask questions), and the height of the lecterns. The league rejected the demands and released a statement saying that it was withdrawing support for the debates because “the demands of the two campaign organizations would perpetrate a fraud on the American voter.”

I posted this on another thread to make a point. Just look at one typical question below and ignore the content for the sake of this discussion:

WALLACE: “All right. I have one final question for you, Mr. Vice President. If Senate Republicans — we were talking originally about the Supreme Court here. If Senate Republicans go ahead and confirm Justice Barrett, there has been talk about ending the filibuster or even packing the court, adding to the nine justices there. You called this a distraction by the president, but in fact it wasn’t brought up by the president; it was brought up by some of your Democratic colleagues in the Congress. So my question to you, is you have refused in the past to talk about it. Are you willing to tell the American people tonight whether or not you will support either ending the filibuster, or packing the court.”

Wallace lost control of that debate last night because both of the candidates were bored out of their minds just listening to him try to get a question out of his mouth. Half the audience didn’t even remember the first part of his rambling by the time he even got to anything resembling a question. You don’t stage an event like this for a TV audience and then try to run it like an Ivy League debate competition.

There should be two or four moderators, and the candidates should pick them. The whole idea that a “debate commission” would even be involved — to the point where they trot out one New York City or D.C. asshole after another as the moderators of these things — is preposterous.

LOL! Nice Spin Chrissy. Are you in the “NO SPIN ZONE”? Pretty FOXY of you. You’re like...a chick. Where’s Billy O’ Pervey?

Now you get hosts on Fox News saying that if the debate commission changes the rules one of the changes should be that candidates’ families are off limits for questions and answers. That’s utter bullshit, because using their offices to make family members rich needs to be fair game. It speaks to the graft and corruption that the candidate engaged in.

We Decide What to Report So That YOU Can Decide. Pretty Foxy of them.

We Decide What Questions to Ask So That YOU CAN DEBATE...with our interruptions and ARTIFICIAL TIME CONSTRAINTS. YOUR 2 minutes are up POTUS

After the question is posed...I agree, you might as well turn the mic off for the moderator and just have a clock running to alert the candidate when to shut-up.

I believe that Chris Wallace just wasn’t the right type for the job, and was more or less unprepared. This will be discussed for the next twenty years on how this one single debate was handled.
