Oh, yeah...cats and dirt. Everything is a litter box to them. LOL! That’s great that the plants have a “home” that keeps them from dying, though.
It isn’t that the cats scratch in the dirt in the pots. They destroy the plants, period. I gave up on having plants in the house looooooong ago.
Th two big plants, I inherited after Mom died and have managed to keep them going over 20 years. Two other plants were Aunt Clara’s and I held on to them because I like them. Since no one lived in this house since I’ve been at the farm, I just put them in the living room. But now that we live in the house, they had to spend winters somewhere else. The garage worked out well so that’s where they’ll winter from here on out.
