LOL,
This is the first “virus” that has become political. Like everything government touches and briefs as a success, government took bad and made it worse: war on drugs, education, health care...
Musk is 100% spot on.
We should have sheltered those at risk.
With no vaccine in hand (where slowing things down would make sense), all we did was create a prolonged and multiple wave path to the same end and where those at risk are at GREATER risk of contracting it (more interactions and time). A certain percent of people (~43% based on what they know now) will get this virus and that number will not change if we shut down, wear masks, gloves, or a tin foil hat. In fact that number will not change if we decide to go to the disco or a crowded bar and dance the Lambada. What will change in the equation is “who” gets it, but in the end, a certain percentage needs exposed for the channels of transmission to be closed, i.e. herd immunity.
Musk is right, it’s only the “who” that we have some control over long term, and by sheltering those at risk, we should have and could have minimized some of the deaths. But instead government geniuses like Cuomo in New York gave the order for Covid positive patients to be accepted back into nursing homes early on, but then likes to talk about “science” and how he defers to the “experts” in all his decisions. What a joke.
