The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator, Andrew Wheeler, sent a letter to Democrat California Gov. Gavin Newsom warning about the legal implications of his recent Executive Order mandating that new vehicle sales starting in 2035 must be electric vehicles and chided him for the failing electricity infrastructure taking place in the state today.

Maybe they can keep the lights/power on by 2035...../s
By 2035 North Korea will have more lights on than California.
Oooh...thats gonna leave a mark.
It’s hard for me to see how such an order could even be Constitutional.
He should have included that graphic that shows the EV attached to a power plant spewing smoke.
Newsom is a deluded anarchist. It is simply not possible to maintain a prosperous, healthy, free modern culture with “green” energy sources. Without nuclear and carbon energy sources there would be poverty, social qnd political conflict. The American people must come to realize what will really happen to their lives and families if the Democrats achieve real power.
By 2035 North Korea will probably be a more attractive place to live than California.
Prager’s description of Newsom is correct and concise: “Newsom is a fool with unlimited power” ... the most dangerous form of a leader or executive.
"Sir, you've gone mad with power."
"Of course I have, you ever tried going mad without power? It's boring, no one listens to you."
Russ Cargill - The Simpsons Movie
Why aren’t idiots like Newsom ever asked how those cars are powered?
By electricity? Where does that come from, or does it come out of thin air, Newsom?
It takes POWER to charge electric cars, which is provided by POWER stations, a lot of them coal-fired.
Idiot.
California just had rolling blackouts during a heat wave that saw temps reach up to 120 in Southern California - b/c of pols like Newsom’s insistence on “alternative energy sources” that provide a fraction of the power of Natural Gas, which the state has in abundance.
Newsom is a fool with unlimited power
Yes, and the electorate in California will continue to vote in such fools - Newsom or someone or his ilk. He has approval ratings in the 90th percentile.
The state is full of dumb, dumb voters - the smart ones are taking their money, businesses and jobs to friendlier states.
Yes he is. He has ZERO common sense. He cannot connect the dots, does not understand cause and effect, does not understand actions have consequences, and just does and says things that are incredibly stupid.
I work for a large electricity and gas provider. It always cracks me up when people call electric cars “green”. Where I live, they are powered by coal. But more importantly, it takes a TON of electricity to power a multi ton vehicle at any speed. What does it do to the grid when electric cars become common?
While obvious, it is a very astute and pertinent observation. Given the current situation is it wise to advocate a course of action (via policy) that would place significant additional demands on an already scarce resource?
When they first started this emissions crap I used to say it would be fun for them to mandate that all vehicles get at least 200 mpg.
I’m reminded of the freeway damage repaired after a major earthquake a decade or so ago. They were repaired in record time. How? Bonuses if certain dates were met. They were. If you want to make cars cleaner, create REASONABLE goals and then PAY the first company to do it. Or something like that. Mandates are not how a free country handles it.
Shutting nuclear and gas power plants will destroy CA’s electric generation.
I don’t know the state of their distribution circuits, but all electric cars plugging in around 1800 hours could be an issue.
It’s a shame, CA is an amazingly beautiful state.(physically)
What you do is only discuss the vehicle as a closed system.
You know this.
We are big fans of Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman’s series “Long Way Around” where they ride motorcycles across continents. They just releasing “Long Way Up” where they are riding from the tip of South America to LA. Their goal is to do it on electric bikes.
They found out on the first show that the range of the bikes before needing to be recharged is *74* miles. On. A. Motorcycle. We just looked at each other and laughed.
2035?
Meaningless pap. Let’s hear how much it will cost to upgrade the power grid to handle all those cars first.
That’s a lot of Wind Farms.
