I know the Left wants PR to become a state so that they can gain two extra senatorial seats.

I’m wondering:
Could an existing state like SC or FL annex PR?

Stupid question I’m sure but these are crazy times and I am trying to think outside the box...anything to keep the Left from gaining two extra seats for themselves.

Yes, a State can add territory to it from several sources, but most easily from land that is not already part of another state.

I’ll say that giving Puerto Rico statehood after the 2016 referendum that allowed it is far less “problematic” than the argument for turning Washington DC into several congressional districts with extra electoral college representation.

Or perhaps a state like Wyoming and Montana split into east and west states - also each getting two Senators
