Maybe you should have read the whole article. Then you would have read the part where he said;

I did read the whole article.

He is arguing against something that no one brought up.

We were not there to do a "good deed" and no one suggested it was the reason.

We were also not there to paint lamp posts. I notice he did not say anything about that.
