Chinas recent takeover of Hong Kong is raising fears Taiwan is the next target in Beijings aggressive push for regional control, said White House National Security Adviser Robert C. OBrien.
Chinas buildup of military forces for over a decade, notably with missiles and other forces dubbed anti-access, area denial systems, has been a longstanding threat, he said.
Im especially concerned about Taiwan given the behavior of China in Hong Kong. The guardrails seem to be off the [Chinese Communist Party] at this point, Mr. OBrien said in an interview with The Washington Times.
Chinas imposition of a draconian national security law in Hong Kong has undermined the former British colonys democratic system that since 1984 had been guaranteed to remain independent of communist rule for 50 years.

Hong Kong didn’t have an air force or navy or army.
True. That said, Taiwan doesn't stand a chance if the Chi-com forces invade.
China has enough surface to surface missiles opposite the island along the coast to cripple Taiwan's infrastructure.
My company does quite a bit of business on the island. Stories of Taiwan periodic readiness exercises take place while they are visiting. At least the poor saps are trying.
Problem, Taiwan is so heavily infiltrated by communist. If they begin pushing back when China begins it's pressure campaign, sabotage units will activate. I truly believe China will make a play within the near future.
I remember when the UK let go of Hong Kong, you could tell then that the ChiComs were going to mark time until they saw the opportunity to move in.
No need to give away nukes to those countries, when our fleet of nuclear submarines roam the 7 seas.
china cant invade fast enough from the sea in a convential assault
yeah good point about the sabotage units
but i would bet many of those folks are known by taiwan intelligence as well
Sad but probably true; but then I don’t think China will escape unscathed.
The whole world is up in arms with China.
The Whu Han virus unleashed by the Chi-Coms on the world has soured the entire world against the CCP.
Everyone through out the world are hoping the Three Gourges dam fails.
Hey China How’s that harvest season going for ya there
Hey i
Up yours mookabooker.
Bill Gertz bump for later....
Communist China already de-facto controls the Philippines. Like a good dictator, Duterte is allowing 100% Chicom ownership of electrical grids, banks, telecoms, airport/seaports and other infrastructure. Also removing the term-limit law about one 6-year term for President, just like Xi and Putin previously did.
taking out the Three Gorges Dam or the series of smaller dams upstream would cripple China and take out 20 years of infrastructure not to mention 100 - 200 million mostly educated people!
Hmm lets see here.
China....
1) Invaded and occupied Tibet, crushed their culture and tortured many Tibetans to death
2) Is now trying to do the same in East Turkestan (a.k.a. “xinjiang”
2) Illegally seized islands in the South China Sea
3) Trying to erase the local culture in Inner Mongolia and the Yi
4) Invaded and seized Aksai Chin from India
5) Gave nukes to Pakistan
6) Illegal takeover of Hong Kong
7) Stole US technology including military technology
8) Covid
And yet our corporations (and the senators/elected “representatives” they own) see no problem in conducting business with them, since they can rake in huge profits by offshoring American jobs for cheap labor.
And our mainstream media is too busy distracting people with fluff hit-pieces on Trump that have no substance so that China’s man Joe Biden (father of one Hunter Biden) can be in charge.
“China is a very respectable nation. I deeply believe that”
-Dianne Feinstein
“We have nothing to fear from China. The world will benefit from a rising China”
-Joe Biden
In June, the Philippines suspended its decision to end a 22-year old agreement that facilitates joint military exercises with the U.S. while starting to increase criticism of Chinas moves in disputed waters. Duterte this month pardoned a U.S. Marine found guilty in 2015 of killing a transgender Filipina.
“...This week the Philippines welcomed the U.S. and other nations to play a role in maintaining security in the South China Sea, following a similar statement from Vietnam earlier this month. China has accused the U.S. of intervening in territorial disputes and called it the biggest driver of militarization of the South China Sea.
It would take a long time for China to build up forces at their coast before an invasion, and Taiwan would see that and prepare for being invaded. Then it would take China several months to slog their way from the coast of Taiwan towards Taipei, with lots of casualties. Not a good idea to attack Taiwan.
But... China needs a diversion from it's internal problems and the pandemic. They just might be crazy enough to do an attack in October. The U.S.A. is mired in a political civil war, and China may see it as an opportunity to strike. Heck, they might actually believe Biden would win the election, and a President Biden would not assist Taiwan and keep the U.S.A. out of the conflict.
Things may get real interesting next month...

Hmm. I always thought the Chinese would play a longer game and find a way to reunite North Korea with the South (and under the South’s government) in exchange for bringing Taiwan into tbe mainland’s fold.
True, but Taiwan also has cruise missles that can reach the Three Gorges Dam which was about to collapse with the previous rains. That dam has cracks all through its structure. It wouldn't take that many cruise missles to collapse it. Once that goes, 10 billion cubic meters of water will be released in a short time flooding the Yangtze River Valley. This contains 8% of the water, 25% of the arable land, 40% of the grain, 33% of the cotton, 66% of the freshwater fish, and 350 million people. From a military perspective, 45% of the Chinese group army, 20% of the armoured division, 38% percent of the infantry division, and 100% of the airborne division are located at the lower reaches of the dam. From an economic standpoint,China is responsible for manufacturing almost a third of the worlds products. More than half of that output happens in the Yangtze River Economic Basin, which would be flooded within a day if the Three Gorges Dam burst. ( WuHan is in that area ). China certainly knows this.
It's not teetering. The dam is very wide and all reinforced concrete so a failure in one section would leave the rest intact. The water would exit that section and reduce the stress on the rest.
Yes a number of synchronized strikes could collapse the whole thing all at once. But it would not be just a few missiles.
