Border wall survey underway (Laredo, TX)
KGNS (LAREDO, Tex) ^ | Sep. 26, 2020 | KGNS

Although the City of Laredo passed a resolution against a border wall and were sued by the federal government for access to survey land back in June, they ultimately agreed to allow the federal government to go in and survey land along the city property...

On Thursday (24 Sep 2020), surveyors were seen working on behalf of the federal government...

Congress appropriated 69 miles of border wall to be built in the Laredo sector.

To date, 31 miles of border wall have been awarded to government contractors, but in the coming weeks the remainder of the 38 miles will be awarded to contractors so the border wall construction can begin...

Officials say contracts have already been given for the building of the (first two sections of the) wall in phases.

The first phase is from the railroad bridge south to the H.B. Zachary Ranch, the second phase is from the north railroad bridge to the Pico Water Treatment Plant, and a third phase from the Pico Water Plant to the Columbia Bridge.

"...“We don’t need a wall,” said Mercurio Martinez III. “We are not completely against walls, walls have their functions, walls have their purpose. We don’t particular feel we need a wall for this area in south Texas..."

I heard Laredo had the 2nd highest per capita violent border crime just a few years back...sure sounds like they need it.

Laredo is the biggest city on the border, without any significant barrier.

Huge amounts of existing illegal traffic will naturally divert through there, as the neighboring Rio Grande Valley Sector is already getting walled off. Despite what some non-authoritative local might opine for a reporter, Laredo already has a high flow of illegal traffic across its unsecured border.

Nuevo Laredo, on the other side of the river, is a cartel hotbed.

It got so bad there a few years ago, that the Mexican Government disbanded the compromised local Police, and instituted martial law.

Things calmed down when one cartel established supremacy, but gang wars are heating up again, as smuggling routes have to shift, because of the new walls going up.

Great idea, but, but who will do all the cheap garden work, housework and babysitting for all those working mothers who simply CAN'T STAND THE IDEA OF TAKING CARE OF THEIR OWN CHILDREN?

Guess as to what percentage of the land owners along the river are already bought by the cartels, 100% ?

The wall hurts everyones cash flow. From Laredo to Brownsville is corrupt Democrap squalor, voter fraud on steroids.

Downtown Laredo, where the Border Wall Program will build an innovative "bulkhead" raised promenade between the bridges, as an Urban Development sweetener for the City.

Other places in the Rio Grande Valley are getting great upgrades to their flood control levees out of the Program. Just the security improvement will lead to higher real estate values, improved tax base, and economic development, as it has elsewhere.

About half of landowners voluntarily signed the right of access right up front, about a quarter entered into negotiations (or were unresponsive), and about a quarter (including the City of Laredo) flat out refused.

Since then, land acquisition actions seem to have progressed smartly, including with the largest landowner by far - the City of Laredo.

They really want this project for the security and development it will bring, but could never admit that politically, because they are all Dems. They need a little Kabuki theater to make it look like they are forced into it.

There is so much open border around Laredo, that the cartels don’t really need to bribe many land owners to cross over.

They do need dedicated stash houses in the area though, for illegals and drugs to hide out, until the initial border chase is over, and follow-on transportation can pick them up. Those stash houses require the full complicity of the owners or tenants.

There has been a big crack down on stash houses lately - seems to be a significant operational decision by DHS to disrupt the smugglers’ infrastructure.

Well, just tonight on CBS "60 Minutes" (the epitome of FAKE NEWS) A whole bunch of really upset GovernMental Swamp Creatures were interviewed and claiming that POTUS Donald J. Trump was breaking all the rules and creating corruption in our precious swamp ridden GovernMental MESS!!!

Of course they didn't follow-up with something about Diane Feindstien and her crooked spouse with their unrighteous deals with CHINA, sorta like the BIDENS ya know, for a little balanced reporting... It's enough to gag a maggot!!!

As areas are walled off, the cartels move to other crossing areas. But there are less areas left, concentrating more activity into less space. With the Wall helping, the Border Patrol can cover and control more area. Every mile makes it better, keep it going.

“As areas are walled off, the cartels move to other crossing areas.”

Not only will US Border Patrol Agents and their new technology be flooding into those shrinking gaps, but other cartels will also be fighting over control on the Mexican side.

They are already having some impressive shootouts among themselves, with improvised armored vehicles, crew served machine guns, and drones dropping explosives. It will likely be full scale next year, if the wall keeps going up like this (ten miles per week).

We don’t particular feel we need a wall for this area in south Texas.” - Council Member for District 3 Mercurio Martinez III

Wow, a council member, no less. He must be a third generation wetback. He needs to be reminded not to come back as his a$$ is kicked all the way back across the border and then some.

The nerve to tell us Laredo doesn't need a wall when it is perfectly clear to anyone with a brain that the wall is going up to protect ALL of America, not just their own little wetback enclaves.

“The nerve to tell us Laredo doesn’t need a wall”

Their lips say no, but their eyes say Yes!

Local politicians there don’t want to get on the wrong side of the strongly Democratic electorate, or the hyper violent cartels, that live in the immediate neighborhood.

Democrats in Congress appropriated the money for 69 miles of top of the line barrier for their local pork barrel project. They want it - they just can’t say it.

I still say the active denial system could be deployed as the effects are only temporary. Any defiant invaders that persist in their attempts to enter should be met with a proportionate Military response.
