Former GOP lawmakers on endorsing Biden: Trump is no Republican, 'lacks basic self-control'

Two former Republican lawmakers wrote an op-ed on Friday explaining why they are supporting Democrat Joe Biden instead of President Trump in November, arguing Trump is "an ill-formed man who lacks basic self-control and shows no semblance of inner character."

Former Reps. Charles Djou (R-Hawaii) and Mickey Edwards (R-Okla.) in an opinion for Roll Call condemned Trump's "childish name-calling, crude behavior and immature narcissism."....

Djou and Edwards said the Democratic presidential candidate is "not a perfect man, but he is a man of humble decency."

Excellent summation. For them, being a Republican is about maintaining a certain kind of respectable demeanor, not about substantive policy issues.

And they talk as if Biden doesn't have a nasty, utterly dishonest side to him. As an example, at a recent campaign event, a young black woman asked Biden what he would tell his daughter to do if she is ever pulled over by the police. Biden's reply was, "Since my daughter is white, she would never be pulled over." That response was utterly dishonest, pandering, disgraceful, and even dangerous, yet these morons give him a complete pass.

In recent months, this man of "humble decency" called a young woman a "lying dog-faced pony soldier," challenged an old man to a push-up contest, challenged a union worker to a fistfight, and said that Trump "did nothing" in response to the corona virus epidemic. These actions - and others I could mention - are not the acts of a man of "humble decency."
