Born 1921. Incredible, I thought it was a typo at first. Still on the bench.

NOT allowing straight ticket voting seems wrong.

In a Presidential year it means the state GOP thinks being tied to the President will be a liability.

The judge’s straw horse logic is really weak. Fearless prediction is that this requirement for the straight ticket selection is going to be overturned on appeal.

I’ve voted on machines the full range of mechanical through today’s computer box. The only time for where the straight ticket vote was significantly faster was the long obsolete and departed mechanical machine.

The real reason for this judicial tinkering is to facilitate low information voters be able to find the letter D.

That seems reasonable.

Minor edit needed

'6 appt. by Trump, 2 by Reagan, and 9 by Clinton/Obama/Bushes.'

That’s a rather specious argument to say that straight-ticket voting should be upheld because of the COVID situation. WTH?

Straight party ticket votes make counting the election results less accurate and more time consuming.

Why?

You have to determine the “intent” of the man/woman who votes if they cross party lines and vote straight party ticket.

Yes, people do that often. I have worked the polls many years.

If they mark straight party ticket and then on selected positions cross over, it is normally counted as if it was not a straight party ticket and that the voter intended to vote the crossovers. But then if you make that decision, what do you do on the positions they did not mark, left both candidate blank?

There never should have been straight party ticket voting.

My problem with this, (besides the bogus reason for the decision), is that the case should have been thrown out or continued until after the election because the law was passed in 2018 and the Dems had plenty of time to bring the case prior to late in the election cycle. They knew they did not like the law when it was passed and 2020 was designated as the start date. They waited until close to the election in order to try to get a favorable ruling with little time for the appeal process to work properly.

See my post #51

I’m the local precinct election judge, have been involved in the process for many years.

As a voter, you don’t see the complexity of the straight party ticket counting. It also introduces errors for inexperienced election crews.

I wonder about her story...

Good luck finding out. Her birth name is supposed to be Garcia but she's also gone by Lerma. She has a sister that's corporate counsel for what used to be Laredo National Bank. I'm guessing Marmalejo is a married name but can't confirm. It seems her personal history is somewhere in the muddy Rio Grande.

At this date, the sample ballot has no been published. This is all geared to creating a giant snafu and creating more doubt/discontent.

It means that it’s easier and more convenient to fake straight tickets than to actually go through the process of choosing candidates...

As expected:

“Federal appeals court temporarily blocks ruling that reinstated straight-ticket voting in Texas”

https://www.texastribune.org/2020/09/28/texas-straight-ticket-voting-blocks/

“A federal judge’s ruling temporarily reinstating the practice of one-punch voting has been put on a temporary hold as judges on the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals weigh the issue.”
