It never made any sense for the Russians to support Donald Trump to be elected.

1. Hillary was already on their payroll with the Uranium One sale and Bill's speech making fees.
2. The Democrat Party plan to reduce our oil and gas production by eliminating fracking and making more federal lands off limits helped the Russians through increasing fuel prices and ensuring that they were the only source for Western European natural gas.

The only thing the Russians might want to do was increase the chaos in our election by having Trump win the popular vote while Hillary won the electoral vote, but they would be stronger with President Hillary Clinton.

It was always a given that the Russians were going to support the Democrats. Not just Hillary - any given Democrat. Any given Republican was going to keep the military strong, which is a threat to Russian ambitions which are as they have been since Dmitry Donskoi threw off the Mongol yoke in the 14th century - to finish what the Mongols never succeeded in doing, viz conquer the world.
