I 100 percent agree with this. Which is why it makes no sense to remove healthy people who have a better chance of recovering and gaining immunity from the population. While they are sequestered the virus still finds hosts.

After that us old folks can come out of hiding.

The key word is eventually. The young are building their immunity by getting it but faster is not better. The reason is that the vulnerable need very slow exposure, or none at all until the vaccine. If all the young people around them have it they have a better chance of dying.
See nursing homes. The young people working there were fine. The old people were not.
