When Trump cut the FICA tax (the “payroll tax” that funds Social Security) I warned in a Freerepublic post that he was giving ammunition to the Democrats to claim he was threatening the viability of Social Security.
Yes, you can strongly argue that this claim is wrong because it’s only a temporary cut in the payroll tax ( and people have to pay it back). But in an election year, this is not a debate Trump needs to have. He should not have taken an action that allows the Dems bring up Social Security’s security
But what do I know? I’m a nobody, not a brilliant high paid campaign consultant like so many of the geniuses in that profession
It was a odd move.
Any ‘savings’ passed on directly to the wage earner would either have to be paid back if not made permanent, and if the cuts WERE made permanent, then Social Security would be eliminated.
No ‘win’.
Saving Social Security is as important, or more so, than any other issue, yesterday, today, or tomorrow.
