The Democrats whining about President Trumps opportunity to nominate a new Supreme Court Justice seem to have forgotten that elections have profound consequences if the American people had entrusted the left with a Senate majority, then the Democrat Party would have the votes to reject the Presidents pick.
Whether the Democrats like it or not, the battle over the Supreme Court was one of the central issues of the historic 2016 election. From the earliest days of his presidential campaign, Donald Trump promised to nominate conservative judges to the bench if and when such vacancies occurred.
Im going to submit a list of justices, potential justices of the United States Supreme Court, that I will appoint from the list, he said at the time, specifically vowing not to appoint liberal judges to the bench. The pledge took on added significance because there was a vacancy on the court when voters went to the polls in 2016, allowing them to consider the question of judicial philosophy when casting their ballots.
Justice Ginsburgs age was not a state secret, either it was reasonable to assume that her seat would ultimately be filled by the winner of the 2016 election. She was, after all, the oldest sitting member of the court. Almost everyone expected that the winner of the 2016 election would get at least two chances to nominate a new Supreme Court justice, making the issue far more prominent than usual.
With all these factors in mind, the American people elected Donald Trump and ensured that the Republican Party kept control of the Senate. The latter was particularly impressive given the fact that the GOP had to defend a total of 24 Senate seats, while the Democrats were only defending 10. Voters reaffirmed the GOP majority during the midterm elections two years later.
Remarkably, the Democrats now behave as if the American people have given them some sort of mandate to determine the fate of the Supreme Court. Citing the death of the late Justice Antonin Scalia, they claim that the Senate should wait to confirm a prospective nominee until after the upcoming election, as it did in 2016.
Of course, the situations are not even close to analogous. For one thing, the GOP had every right to withhold a confirmation vote on President Obamas nominee, Merrick Garland, because Republicans had the power of the majority in the Senate. For another, there would be a new president in January 2017 regardless of who won the election, whereas now the incumbent will be held democratically accountable for whomever he decides to nominate.
Remarkably, some Democrats have even gone so far as to suggest that President Trump should be and this is not an exaggeration impeached for exercising his constitutional authority to nominate federal judges.
Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, for instance, argued that House Democrats must consider, again, all of the tools available to our disposal, and that all of these options should be entertained and on the table to prevent President Trump from filling the vacant seat on the Supreme Court.
Similarly, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi recently refused to rule out impeachment as a possible tool to delay action on the future Supreme Court nominee, even sounding a bit peeved that others had anticipated the ploy when she was asked about it directly.
Well, we have our options, she remarked. We have arrows in our quiver that Im not about to discuss right now.
The Democrats only have themselves to blame for their current political predicament the American people never entrusted them with the power to block President Trumps judicial nominations. The Constitution gives the president a clear mandate to nominate someone to fill a vacancy on the Supreme Court, subject only to the advice and consent of the U.S. Senate.
As Ginsburg explained four years ago, Theres nothing in the Constitution that says the president stops being the president in his last year [in office]. The same is certainly true of President Trump.
I blame Trump.
Yesterday while driving, saw an old obummer era tattered pink bumper sticker...
WE WON
GET OVER IT
...and had to laugh that this smug statement certainly must trigger them as they think about the current SCOTUS vacancy.
The Democrats are wanting more than ever for Republicans to react with a move that more of the population will disagree with.
I found something that I can thank Harry Reid for.
And what is that?
The sickly Hag should have stepped down while The Imposter was in the White Hut.
But her ego wouldn’t allow that happen.
Remember “Pride before the fall”? The Hag thought the world wouldn’t spin without here. In typical DC Political fashion, you only get to take these folks out, in a box, feet first. They never willingly give up power.
You know you’re at Death’s Door. Most try to make peace with family, friends, maybe even enemies, . . . and your Creator.
But “RBG” is said to have been only worried about her replacement. How terribly sad.
I hope Satan has an extra special chair for her. She has certainly earned it.
I blame RBG as she could have stepped down during Obama’s first term to allow him to pick her replacement. I blame Hillary for losing the election. RBG said she was sure Hillary would win and wanted a female President to pick her replacement. Hillary lost. The Dems, the SC Judges and the mainstream media I’m sure were told RBG was dying weeks before she died. They waited, kept silent hoping the closer she died to election, the better their case would be for holding off.
The majority of people in America have forgotten or never learned how to win and how to lose. We have a situation where leftists, whether in government, big business or academia, pick winners and losers. RINOs have long forgotten how to win. Why? Because, despite winning their elections someone else they are told they are losers. They are told they unpopular and that most people hate them. So they act like losers. Democrats receive the opposite. However, they do not act like winners. They are delusional. They act like something more. For a lack of a better term, they are spoiled sports. They are the ones that spike the ball and gloat over the opponent even when they are getting their asses kicked.
Republicans hold the Senate and Presidency. Conservatives judges and justices have evened the playing field in the judicial branch of government. Democrats control one half of one branch of government, but they act like they have won it all. Neither Republicans nor Democrats behave like they have won or loss.
I do not expect Republicans to gloat over their opponents, but I do expect them to go about their business as if they have won. No spiking of the ball. No name on the jersey. Play as a team and continue to win. Act like they have won before and it is expected to continue. Take credit when credit is due.
When it comes to this supreme court nomination it is simple. The US Constitution gives the power to the President to nominate. The US Senate gets to confirm. Both the President and the Senate are controlled by Republicans. The President knows how to win, most RINO Senators do not. Democrats in their delusion think they have a say. Most Republicans let them get away with that. The simple reason is that most Republicans do not know how to win and claim the spoils of victory. They do not act like winners.
Yup. Harry Reid must be in hiding in a secure, undisclosed location at this point.
“And what is that?”

Reid eliminated the filibuster for Federal Judiciary appointments, the so-called ‘nucular’ option...
Dems are acting like spoiled brat children, the media should be laughing at them, but that would mean laughing at their own foolishness.
Reid got rid of the filibuster for Judicial appointments.
So in effect changed the vote needed to confirm from 60(to break a filibuster) to a simple majority of 51. Called the Nuclear Option at the time. Repubs warned him. Eh Eh Eh
Sorry Harry
Not to speak ill of the dead, but it was pure arrogance that kept Ginsburg from stepping down when there was an opportunity to be replaced by someone she would have liked. She knew better than anyone how poor her health was and how every day was one closer to her inevitable end. Yet she hung on to that chair and left the liberals of this country in a situation where the Supreme Court will shift hard right. They should be furious about that, but instead they worship her and get furious at President Trump for daring to nominate a replacement as is his duty under the US Constitution.
They just don’t make any sense. They should be furious with Ginsburg. This whole situation is the result of her own decisions.
Schumer’s “argument”. The Republicans, since they currently hold the Presidency and Senate majority might appoint the next Supreme Court justice even though they have the legal right to do so. I want my party, not the Republicans, to appoint the supreme court justice. Therefore, I want the Republicans, for their own good, to await until after the next Presidential inauguration to appoint a SC justice. I am saying this along with accompanying obfuscatory boilerplate for altruistic reasons.
Seems she made a bargain with the devil....RBG wanted a (gag) Pres Hillary to replace her with Obama.
The Nuclear Option that he imposed. He was told at the time it would come back to bite Democrats in the butt but, he went forward with it allowing for a simple majority vote for judicial positions.
