I’m guessing that Mitch is trying to wargame how the timing of a vote would affect key Senate races, and getting input from various GOP senators in competitive states.

A 4-4 tie in the court going into what will undoubtedly be a contested election is unacceptable.

[Those familiar with the process said interest inside the White House seemed to be waning for Lagoa amid concerns she did not have a proven record as a conservative jurist. ]
Many here have expressed concern that she seemed more of a politically-correct hanger-on who might show her true colors if given real power of her own. More and more, I’m inclined to agree. The fact that her FIL was a Clinton appointee is not reassuring.

Not enough time to get it done by then. Schumer has invoked the “two hour rule” which will make it very hard to have hearings...or any other business.

It’s sad. If John Roberts wasn’t compromised, we wouldn’t have to go through this sh*t. Then it would just be the CR and the COVID-IV package (hopefully not the version passed in the house at the behest of the 7-year-old girl leading that body).

From the article
But hearings could start as soon as Oct. 12 by the Senate Judiciary Committee, with a vote in the full Senate by Oct. 29, according to a GOP aide granted anonymity to discuss deliberations.
What are they going to do between now and Oct 12?
linda Graham heads the Judiciary Committee. He could call the committee to order on the first day of hearings, hold a vote and be done with it.
To me, the hearings are just more Kabuki theater with various politicians preening before the cameras. Since the Repubs have a majority on the committee, the result has already been determined. Why not vote early and avoid all the hassle?

Looks almost as if the Republican senators have some inside word that the nominee will be easy to confirm and noncontroversial.

They are waiting till the last minute? As usual the pubbies don’t understand what dirty tricks the RATS can pull. They need to have at least a 2 week cushion.
