That has been my experience. When I have heard people âspeaking in tonguesâ, it is not a recognizable, linguistically-defined language as was the case in Acts when Pentecost occurred. Paul mentions speaking in the âtongues of men and of angelsâ, which I guess could include either a defined language or the non-defined category. I asked one of the people who engaged in the practice about it and he said said something about a âprayer tongueâ, which I cannot find a scriptural reference for but I have heard no prohibition against, either, in any Catholic doctrine. So if the âRats try to use it as a wedge issue, they’re basically going on another fishing expedition.
