The left needs the nominee to be Barrett because they have already compiled a number of attacks on her. They are raring to go. I have already seen one attack on Facebook that featured a huge lie about a group the Barrett’s belong to.

It seems as though Barrett had been sort of the favorite for Ginsburgs replacement from the outset. The timing of this adds a little to the political intrigue, but I don't think we should over analyze it. Most voters aren't going to look at the finer points of Barrett's resume or judicial philosophy. If she comes across as a nice person and is highly qualified, she will help Trump in the election.

If there is another Kavanaugh style hearing, it would not help Trump, even though we know it's the Democrats causing all the trouble.

My guess is that time was needed to get the Rs in the Senate “squared away”. McConnell needs to count votes and might still be counting votes. The GOP committed to hearing the nominee before the election but did they commit to voting for her? IDK.
