National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF) indicates that ammunition sales were up 139 percent in the first six months 2020 as compared to sales during the first six months of 2019.
NSSF president and CEO Joe Bartozzi spoke at the 2020 Gun Rights Policy Conference over the weekend where he delivered the news on the surge in ammunition sales. He also noted that gun sales were 95 percent higher in the first six months of 2020 than they were during the same time period in 2019.

I’ve noticed this too at local gun shops. My favorite ammo is practically non-existent. They say it’s COVID19.
I say it’s hunting season.
Ammo in short supply?
Who would have guessed.
Not too many people hunt with 9mm 40 cal and 5.56....
Well, maybe some do.
This
Supply has been cut (since the gun grabbers can't get the guns), and demand by the newbies (and seasoned owners who have eyes in their heads and understand the seasons we are living in) has created a vacuum...
Thank goodness for cheap .22 ammo and rifle conversion kits!
Good luck finding reloading components. Many basic supplies are out of stock.
The sales numbers would be much higher if there wasn’t a shortage.
Hunting season?
Yeah, but not for four-legged or winged creatures.
What kind of prices are we seeing? Ive got a few excess 9mm. During the Sandy Hook aftermath I sold a couple rifles and some 5.56. The two rifles were gunbrokered at twice their value.
Just my luck.
I’m about to purchase my first firearm - an M1 Garand. I have wanted one of these for 40 years. Mainly, I want this rifle for historical reasons, but I’d like to visit a gun range every now and then to fire it.
Not only is ammo in very short supply, I didn’t realize how expensive 30 cal can be. YIKES!
It’ll be a while before I’m ready to fire the rifle. I want to retake the NRA Safety Course, learn every part and piece, and how to properly clean and maintain this piece of history.
Maybe ammo will be more available by then.
When I said hunting, I was not necessarily talking deer or other big four legged game.
22’s have gotten TERRIBLY expensive , when you can find them.
You can practice
“Garand Thumb”!
yeah. I got 1 in March. Sweet rifle. Took only 3 rounds to zero the sights.
You also have to be careful, don’t use just any 30 cal, it has to be spec for the M1 or you can damage your rifle.
Also as I shoot lefty, every time the clip gets ejected I get it square on the forehead, “ping”.
I didn’t know there was a 2 legged season.
Where do you get tags?
I must’ve watched 20 YouTube videos about the rifle.
I wasn’t aware of ammo requirements, thanks!
I suffered “Garand Thumb” when I first fired one of these 40 years ago (a great story in itself!), so I’ll probably be able to avoid that.
I shoot lefty, too (squeeze trigger w/ left hand?). So, rather than suffer “Garand Thumb,” I can have “Garand Forehead.”
Wow, you guys in your state hunt with .380 ACP, 9mm, and 5.56?!?
When it is available, I've seen .380 ACP FMJ practice ammo going for $56/box of 50. Over a buck a round for .380!
I have several thousand rounds of 5.56mm and a few rounds of .223 to get rid of. PM me if you’re in South Central Texas.
What kind of prices are we seeing? Ive got a few excess 9mm.
Over a dollar per shell for 9mm. If you can find it.
