Joseph Kennedy II donated $2M to super PAC backing his son, records show (Daddy's Money...lost)

Joseph Kennedy II dumped $2 million from his old campaign coffers into the super PAC backing his son’s bid to unseat U.S. Sen. Edward Markey, FEC filings show, confirming the speculation that became a major point of contention in the final weeks of the primary.

The elder Kennedy, who served as a congressman from 1987 to 1999, made two contributions of $1 million each to the New Leadership PAC aiding U.S. Rep. Joseph Kennedy III, one on Aug. 5 and the other on Aug. 19, SEC records show. The money came as polls began to show the race slipping away from the younger Kennedy.

Speculation that the elder Kennedy would move money from his old campaign accounts to help his son ran rampant in the final weeks of the race. It became a flashpoint in debates as Markey called on Kennedy to “tell your father” to stop funding the PAC he claimed was “running negative ads.” Markey’s campaign even turned the phrase “tell ya fatha” into a T-shirt.

Super PACs can raise unlimited sums on behalf of a candidate but cannot coordinate with a campaign.

The New Leadership PAC appears to have brought in $4.5 million overall, according to a report for the month of August filed on the FEC website Sunday night.

The pro-Markey super PAC, United for Massachusetts, had not yet filed as of Sunday night.

In the end, the millions of dollars in legacy money didn’t help. Markey thumped his challenger in the Sept. 1 primary, defeating Kennedy by 10 points.

Kennedy money couldn’t help the redheaded grandchild (of RFK) win in the primary.

Joe II crippled Pam Kelley in 1973. He dropped out of a race for Governor and did not run again for Congress after embarassing behavior by himself (annullment) and other family members (brother Michael and the babysitter).JFK Jr called his cousins “poster boys for bad behavior”.
Michael skiied into a tree.
JFK Jr flew into the ocean.

Can’t you imagine if Joe III beat Markey in primary then won Senate seat...next stop the White House.

10 point loss!

Markey no prize, backs Green New Deal.
GOP challenger is Mark O’Connor.

And this is the whole point of the Harris/Biden campaign.

They are going to lose but, not before collecting a billion dollars and pretending to spend it before the election.

The left over monies will be used in a PAC for 2022 and 2024.

Boom!

If the DEMOCRATS have this kind of money to throw into an election to keep someone they favor in that position — just image the actual intake from corruption of gifts, under the table transactions, and other funds going into their pockets... Having a seat apparently makes one very wealthy...

I think AOC is a millionaire now — within months of being elected - she cut a deal with Netflix for $10 million USD ... what a racket !

Just trying to set his son up in the family business. JoJoJo was no superstar, but he was the most coherent and one of the more photogenic Kennedy spawn in the latest generation.

At last Massachusetts politics is briefly free of Kennedys.

Another reminder that money gets you the mic but if the crowd doesn’t like the song you sing they walk out.
