President Trump said he would nominate a Supreme Court pick on Friday or Saturday and has five women under consideration to replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, as Senate Republicans lined up behind him and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.), rejecting Democrats calls to let the winner of the presidential election make the pick.
Mr. Trump maintained that the replacement of Justice Ginsburg, who died Friday of metastatic pancreatic cancer at the age of 87, should happen swiftly. We won the election and elections have consequences, he said Monday morning on Fox News. We have plenty of time.
The presidents list has been narrowed to two leading candidates, according to people familiar with the matter: federal appellate judges Amy Coney Barrett of the Seventh Circuit, in Chicago, and Barbara Lagoa of the 11th Circuit, in Atlanta.
The president said he has three other people to choose from, though declined to name them. He said he was looking for someone who is young and could serve on the court for a long time. Were looking for a good person.
Judge Barrett, 48 years old, was confirmed to the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in October 2017 in a 55-43 vote. She is popular among social conservatives and was a finalist for the post in 2018 when Mr. Trump chose Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Judge Lagoa, 52, previously served as the first Hispanic woman on Floridas high court.
More than 20 Senate Republicans said over the weekend that they back moving immediately to fill the vacancy, and many are expected to follow suit as the week gets under way. Two Republican senatorsSens. Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaskabroke ranks this weekend, saying they oppose action on a nomination before the presidential election.

Also allows the Rats to stew even more and look more ridiculous.
I think to allow time for funeral, paying respects, LIE IN STATE for public ceremony for 2 days, etc. A ceremony inside the court is expected as early as Tuesday, according to someone familiar with the plan, followed by an outdoor viewing that would adhere to social distancing guidelines.
A small funeral service is also expected to be held for Justice Ginsburg, who died on Friday at 87, as well as a burial at Arlington National Cemetery later in the week.
How is it not clearly Britt Grant?
She is going to lie in Supreme court in state for public ceremony for 2 days and then burial later in the week. President is allowing time out of respect.
By waiting until the weekend, he keeps this topic on the front burner all week and into the debate. Trump dictating the agenda and tempo. Good.
Plus it gives them a few days to bury the witch. That way they cant say Trump was mean spirited by announcing her replacement in the midst of liberals weeping and gnashing of teeth. Perhaps Mitch will recess the senate in order to attend her funeral. They have admonished Trump not to go, so he can sit there in the Oval Office and make recess appointments all day.
The left already has their files in these ladies.
You think they didn’t see this coming. They’ve been digging on them for years.
You’re about to see the leaks in the media of what they have in their files...
Yep, and you now what they found? One of them is a GASP, Catholic.
I understand. However we can’t allow another Kavanaugh circus with drummed up rape, assault, molestation charges for hearing which could go on for months and months.
Because time is of essence with election going to be contested we have to get the court to 9 SC not 4-4.
Dear Lord,
Give that man the wisdom of Solomon in the decisions he makes in the upcoming weeks.
Protect him from the rabid attacks of the enemy and in Your mercy, give us another four years of his leadership for our nation.
And please, turn this nation back to you.
Amen
Amen.
Rehnquist was only 1 day and he was Chief Justice.
The Hispanic is also Catholic.
The nerve of those two.
But it is close, in terms of Senate confirmation, so it's doubtful she'll be the nominee. BG hearings would be all about gay marriage and she'd be on the defensive; some squishes in the GOP would vote no, and there'd be no hope at all of a Dem vote for her. Besides, Pres. Trump's looking for experience and she hasn't as much as some others.
For that matter, I'll be amazed if he picks Barrett.
Either way I'm not hopeful. Women judges disappoint. It'll be a Souter moment...that will last 30+ years. She'll make Jeff Sessions look like a brilliant selection.

They’ll get to use them, along with yet another impeachment attempt.
I think the dem sleeze machine did everything possible to cower Murkowski to desert Trump on the impeachment evidence and the vote to impeach last winter. The democrats have been running around, hair ablaze, pulling everything they have out for four years. Whats left to apply additional pressure to any Republican?
I’m guessing Loretta Lynch didn’t make the cut.
Yes. Roe v Wade is not ready to be overturned right now. Patience, grasshopper! The critical thing is to get the president reelected and keep the Senate. I love Barrett, but she will set off a firestorm from the satanic left. There could easily be three more openings in the next four years. Her time will come.
Prudence is called for here.
To hell to wait till after the witch’s funeral. Trump should announce his nominee forthwith, why waste a week?
I would prefer no woman. Sadly, PDJT has promised ...
Romney probably has some "binders" left over from his previous campaign.
