Hmmmm. So being sanctimonious may cost them bigly. Some folks don't know when to call it quits and someone of higher authority steps in to make the call. And Coney Barret or Lagoa are young enough they could be on the bench for a LONG time. Now if roberts would retire.

>>doesn’t really believe the Supreme Court must uphold precedent like Roe v Wade?

The court doesn’t uphold precedents. Whether it is slavery or homosexuality the court has flipflopped numerous times in history.

And 50,000,000 dead babies need some representation in this country.

The only thing wrong with this article is the 6-3 majority mentioned in the second sentence. John Roberts is no longer trustworthy, so it would be more like 5-4.

"Is Life, Property and every Thing dear and sacred, to be now submitted to the Decisions of PENSION'D JUDGES, holding their places during the pleasure of such a Governor, and a Council perhaps overawed! To what a State of Infamy, Wretchedness and Misery shall we be reduc'd if our Judges shall be prevail'd upon to be thus degraded to Hirelings, and the Body of the People shall suffer their free Constitution to be overturn'd and ruin'd. Merciful GOD! Inspire Thy People with Wisdom and Fortitude, and direct them to gracious Ends. In this extreme Distress, when the Plan of Slavery seems nearly compleated, O save our Country from impending Ruin - Let not the iron Hand of Tyranny ravish our Laws and seize the Badge of Freedom, nor avow'd Corruption and the murderous Rage of lawless Power be ever seen on the sacred Seat of Justice!

"Is it not High Time for the People of this Country explicitly to declare, whether they will be Freemen or Slaves? It is an important Question which ought to be decided. It concerns us more than any Thing in this Life. The Salvation of our Souls is interested in the Event: For wherever Tyranny is establish'd, Immorality of every Kind comes in like a Torrent. It is in the Interest of Tyrants to reduce the People to Ignorance and Vice. For they cannot live in any Country where Virtue and Knowledge prevail. The Religion and public Liberty of a People are intimately connected; their Interests are interwoven, they cannot subsist separately; and therefore they rise and fall together. For this Reason, it is always observable, that those who are combin'd to destroy the People's Liberties, practice every Art to poison their Morals. How greatly then does it concern us, at all Events, to put a Stop to the Progress of Tyranny. It is advanced already by far too many Strides. We are at this moment upon a precipice. The next step may be fatal to us. Let us then act like wise Men; calmly took around us and consider what is best to be done. Let us converse together upon this most interesting Subject and open our minds freely to each other. Let it be the topic of conversation in every social Club. Let every Town assemble. Let Associations & Combinations be everywhere set up to consult and recover our just Rights.

" The Country claims our active Aid. That let us roam; & where we find a Spark Of public Virtue, blow it into Flame." - Samuel Adams

Got news for the author. Chief Justice John Roberts is no conservative, not in any manner whatsoever.

All good except the “6-3 majority” part. I’d put it at 5-4, given the tendency of roberts to cave to the blackmailers.

Roberts says Judges are “apolitical”. We know that is not true and it is obvious. Allegedly (although I find the story quite convenient), RBG said from her deathbed that she did not want Trump to replace her.

I think over time more and more of the RBG fans are going to realize that her refusal to step down at the end of Obama’s second term in the face of overwhelming health issues did in fact betray her “politics”.

If we juxtapose the same “political objectives” on Thomas or Alito, we might well be saying the same thing in January of 2021. Then again, I don’t think either of them wear their politics like RBG as they view the constitution as constraint upon government (GOP view) vs a living document subject to shifting winds of opinion (RBG view).

Now there is the possibility that constitutional rights like free speech, due process and the right to keep and bear arms will have to be respected after having been trampled on for a generation. The constitution will no longer mean what one man (Roberts) feels like it means on any given day, but will instead mean what the plain words of it actually say.

Do you think it would be a good strategy to put DJT’s second choice up first, to be the sacrificial lamb, so to speak?

And then when the oppos shoot her down, he could nominate a guy like Tom Cotton...in for the kill.

But would that be too cynical and sexist?

Every time we feel that Roberts votes the wrong way; it turns out the unintended (?) consequences help President Trump.

Well, couldn’t Trump appoint Coney Barret as Chief Justice, bumping Roberts down to Associate Justice?

Has any chief justice ever been ‘demoted’?
