If the 53-47 GOP Senate fails to fill RBG's vacancy, the party is finished. The base will be demoralized and stay home, costing both President Trump and Mitch McConnell their jobs. President Biden will replace RBG and President Harris will replace Thomas and Alito. The Democrat majority congress will lurch so far to the left, so fast, our heads will spin.
And that's it. It'll be as if the last four years never happened (and liberals will put legislation in place to ensure it never happens again).
This will be Mitch McConnell's finest hour and political suicide to any Republican senator who stands in his way (including Collins).
She'll come around. She's basks in the attention of being a maverick, only to step in line when it counts.

Like Biden's pick, Kamala Harris - anchor baby with non-American parents ("black" female - missed a bit on that one and it'd be nice if she was a natural born citizen as required by our Constitution but that's no longer an issue apparently) I do not understand why its not the most qualified but that she's the right sex.
