RGB’s poor health was no secret, and based on his recently announced list of SCOTUS candidates, I have to believe that Trump had advance notice that she was in her last days. That means he and McConnell must have already carefully prepared for everything they are doing and will do, including counting Senate votes.
I’m sure you’re right. Remember he released a list of possible nominees last week? There were some well known names, such as Cruz (who said he didn’t want it), and others with whom I wasn’t familiar.
In any case, I think in addition to picking somebody good, he’s going to need somebody who’s willing to go through the hell that the Dems are planning.
Agreed. Trump and the Republicans likely have this scenario gamed out already. Expect events to move rapidly and for a new SC justice to be in place by Nov 3.
Also, expect the usual "weak sisters" of the GOP to throw off some chaff, causing the Dems to let down their guard a little. Then the vote will happen and BAM...
The Dems won't know what hit them.
Even better, the Biden/Kamala ticket will get even less traction in the weeks ahead. Trump will be doing 8 campaign rallies a week while Biden "puts a lid" on his campaign events at least every other day. Kamala will be screeching somewhere but not many of us will hear it.

I too believe the votes have already been counted. This will become the
cornerstone of McConnell’s legacy.
