Another good week. Another 3000 voters sliced from the Dem registration advantage. Remember #denominatorsmatter. Unaffiliateds continue to register in Red and Blue counties. Based on 2012 and 2016 they vote the same way their counties do.

I continue to be impressed with Rep voter registrations.

In a close race, 3000 in a week makes a difference!

Vote early
North Carolina voters can also vote before Election Day. The

I went to the trouble of dumping NC current data & historical data into a database. Fun times, but at least I can get all the crosstabs I want now just by a simple SQL query.

My theory is that these I voters are new state transplants. They carried Trump in 2016 but it’s less clear in 2020.

If you take the ratio of I’s from 2020 and 2016 you get this map.

Image here because I can’t get the height/width attributes to work

This map aligns perfectly with where NC has experienced population growth.

Population change map

They seem to be overperforming relative to Democrats in VBM, among the under-65’s. I suspect they disproportionately make up the professional class. I agree they will tend to vote R in red counties and D in blue counties.

With the death of Justice Ginsburg, Republican turnout will go through the roof. Many registered Democrats will not even know that she has died, or that this year is an election year. Without the normal Democrat GOTV effort, they will be in trouble and they have already decided not to do it due to COVID-19. Expect them to revisit that decision.

Holy crap! I had no idea she died. I stare at these numbers constantly to the point of ignoring the news and politics.
