On 9 September 2020 in an interview on the Shawn Hannity show on Fox news.com, President Trump made a bold assertion. He said if he were not in the office, the Second Amendment would have become essentially meaningless, because of the different judges who would have been appointed. From the transcript:
And also, Supreme Court judges or justices.
And you — the whole country, it depends on these decisions, which way you go, whether you have a Second Amendment or not. I mean, the Second Amendment would be under siege.
If I wasn't here, you wouldn't have a Second Amendment right now. You wouldn't have a right to guns. You would — whether you had it or it was just almost totally obliterated, but it would be in a very different form than you have right now.
I've kept it totally as it was, and it's, you know, something I'm very proud of, and people — I think it's a real voting issue, Second Amendment.
Life, you look at that. So these judges are going to be making massive decisions. And the next president is going to get one, two, three, or four justices of the Supreme Court.
The President is correct in his statement. If Hillary would have become President, the Second Amendment in the Bill of Rights would have been interpreted out of any significance. We already have several circuit courts who are working hard to interpret the Second Amendment as of little consequence. If a President Hillary would have appointed replacements for Justice Scalia and Kennedy, the ten Second Amendment cases the Supreme Court has refused to hear, would have been granted writs of certiorari at the Supreme Court. Second Amendment supporters would not have liked the results.

We and President Trump averted disaster. We stopped the Leftists from destroying the United States as known.
But they have never stopped in their efforts to destroy Constitutional order.
Even if I didn’t already greatly admire him, I’d still be impressed by the fact that the man appears to have no fear at all. None.
Maybe.
But Trump has still passed more gun control legislation than Obama - banning bump stocks and supporting red flag laws.
Not that this affects my vote, but it is worth mentiioning.
I guess the thing that irritates me most is that the people who are our enemies from within are seemingly not being brought to justice. Hopefully, there are things going on behind the scenes that will accomplish this goal.
If we manage a majority in both six weeks from now, I hope the President will push for that reciprocity he ran on in 2016.
Here is the Democrat Marxists’ Plan:
1. Get super-majorities of BOTH houses, AND the Presidency, one way or another.
2. Draft a new Amendment that will allow the government to confiscate all firearms, under some pretense of ‘National Emergency’, repealing the original 2nd Amendment.
3. Submit it to the states for RATification.
4. Threaten all states with total cutoff of ALL Federal Funding if Amendment is not passed by their legislatures.
5. A s soon as the last state needed to RATify the Amendment does so, DECLARE A NATIONAL EMERGENCY AND BEGIN FULL CONFISCATION OF ALL PRIVATELY HELD FIREARMS.......................
Yeah! Dang that chicken Obama to hell and back anyway already. Building the extra protective fence around the White House. Retreating to the bunker when push came to shove.
Would be? It *is* under siege; has been for decades. It some jurisdictions it doesn't exist.
Government (at all leves) despises the Bill of Rights, and the Second Amendment in particular.
And we won’t have it long beyond 2025, unless we ourselves fight for it, in sufficient numbers, which we won’t.
Can’t agree with you here for a few reasons. Democrats don’t care about the Constitution enough to change it, they would just pass legislation ignoring it like they have always done. They are also the party of incrementalism, they would never do a full confiscation, they would start with the “scary assault weapons” and slowly move on to the next boogeyman weapon.
I would prefer they try it your way. Even among libs there are second amendment supporters.
The bump stock regulation is being contested in the courts.
The Trump administration has changed rules to:
Remove the federal ban on guns in land controlled by the Army Corps of Engineers.
Remove the Obama emplaced requirement for a $2,250 tax on gunsmiths, each and every year (ITAR Reform).
Reached a settlement with Defense Distributed for Defense Distributed to exercise their First Amendment rights to publish and distribute computer code on 3D printed guns. The Obama administration ordered them to stop publication, under the ITAR rules. (the settlement has been ordered stopped by a political judge and several attorney generals from anti-second amendment states).
Removed the effective ban on the commercial export of Silencers.
Legislation to reform gun laws was first stymied by the RINOs like Paul Ryan, then by the Democrat House.
Administratively, the Trump administration has done much better than the Obama administration.
The Obama administration worked aggresively to implement more restrictions on gun ownership.
The Trump administration has worked to prevent restrictions on gun ownership. (possible exception, the bump stock ban, where there was overwhelming support for very bad legislation. The rule, written by the BATFE, stopped the legislation from passing)
Saltpeter and ammonia can be made from what can be found in toilets.
That's because it will literally take a second civil war to do so.
Like a highly malignant stage four cancer, the leftists have spread to control every global institution from governments to businesses, banks, health care, and academia.
A blunderbuss is quite effective at short range.

Hillary would have appointed Merrick Garland (a sop for Obama) and Bill Ayers or some other Far Left activist.
Any and all SCOTUS decisions would be 7-2 for the Left. Roberts would mostly vote with the majority Left but occasionally with the remain 2 conservatives so at best the Right would lose, 3-6.
It would be far more than the 2nd Amendment we’d have lost.

Today’s ‘Democrats’ are not like your father’s ‘Democrats’.
They are outright Communists who have taken control of the Democrat Party.
They demand action NOW! And as soon as they get the power, by any means necessary, they will immediately begin the process.
For those who say, “IT CAN’T HAPPEN HERE!”, IT CAN AND IT WILL................
I prefer they try it the way you are suggesting rather then the methodology that has been so effective for them since the 1930s.
