Oregon GOP to be allowed in voter guide, judge says

The Oregon Republican party will be allowed to include its policy statements in the state's voters’ pamphlet after state officials initially said the party had missed the deadline by 29 seconds.

Marion County Judge Channing Bennet ruled Monday that GOP Chairman Bill Currier completed his part of the transaction before the 5 p.m. deadline, and said that is more important than the time at which the state finished processing the filing, Oregon Public Broadcasting reported.

The judge said Oregon law sees the policy statements of a major party as “necessary to a free and informed electorate” and that it overweighs the ambiguities in the election deadline, according to the outlet.

Secretary of State Bev Clarno, a Republican, reportedly said in a statement she will accept the GOP statement for the voter’s guide, but she will appeal the decision to answer the legal questions about the deadline.

It looks like the GOP got the forms in down to the wire but the processing was past the deadline.

Why did they wait until the literal last minute? That was just stupid.

Yes, it was the processing that delayed it. It is normal, also, to wait until latest possible time to file. Bev Clarno is 80+ years old. And, likely a RINO.

Almost certainly a Rino, as she was appointed by a Dem (to succeed a Republican who had died).

I agree it was foolish to wait to the last second.

Let's hope lessons were learned.

“It’s normal.”

It’s stupid. Get it in a week early. Then this crap can’t happen.

Did they wait until the last minute for a reason?

Even one day early is enough to prevent this kind of BS.

For Washington State Oregon and California what REALLY can be done to disempower the radical radical left?

De-radicalization and pacification by force? We don’t have enough jails and training camps to rehabilitate them. Can we expatriate them to other countries?
It is a rhetorical question.

In California alone we have 15 million people living amongst us that are not actually American at heart and in fact they are anti everything America stands for.

29 seconds??? And yet the Democrats will sue to get rejected mail-in ballots accepted, despite the fact that they were disqualified because they were late, or didn’t have a date stamp on them...and they usually win.

“That was just stupid”

That’s what I originally also thought. It seems they applied two hours prior to the deadline but the state’s computers went into a timely stall and came back on just in time to be 29 seconds late.

Even the two hour prior time also seemed late to me. Turns out that is calculated timing so the opposing side can’t do a rebuttal. They hadn’t planned on the blatant dirty tricks.

Regardless of why the GOP waited until the last minute. The state needs to have a big enough buffer in their time frame to incorporate any last minute submissions.

You wait as long as you can so that your opponents don’t have a chance to alter their platform to counter or mimic your proposals.

Self-preservation.
