Joe Public votes in person. He doesn't trust the mail and says it thrills him to pull the lever himself.

There's a snag at the polling center, though - the clerk says he already voted, it's marked on the voter rolls, and he won't be allowed to vote.

Joe says no, I never did that, here's my ID to prove who I am. Someone voted using my name, I demand you destroy that forgery and let me cast my vote NOW.

Sorry about that, Joe - your mailin vote was opened and counted ten days ago. There's no way to tell which ballot was yours, now that it's out of the envelope (if they could, it wouldn't be a SECRET ballot, would it?).

So you see we can't invalidate that vote, and can't let you vote twice, now, can we? You're welcome to one of these "I Voted" stickers, though...
