What’s a realistic timeline for a coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine to be available to the public? How long will it really take to get back to “normal life”?

Research is progressing well on several of the COVID-19 vaccine candidates, but Dr. Anthony Fauci wants everyone to understand that even under the best-case scenario, getting back to normal won’t happen overnight.

“Right now, today, in real time, we’re averaging close to 40,000 new infections a day and 1,000 deaths,” Fauci said. “So we are still in the middle of this. In order to get any semblance of normality, you’ve got to get that baseline number of infections way down.”

Define "normal life". We've had businesses destroyed by the COVID-19 lock-downs, many to never come back. We've allowed politicians to rule by fiat with little pushback, meaning the next flu season they can just lock down their states/cities again. We've allowed the Antifa and BLM rioters to destroy property and lives, and whatever the outcome of the election, they will destroy some more. We're seeing random cop killings because it is now an honor among the leftists. We're seeing anyone who opposes the left doxxed, and we're having people threatened at night from outside their residences.

"Normal" is now a small blip in the rear view mirror. If we're lucky, the country may not collapse in the next four years.

I hate to agree with Dr. F. But I think he is right. Even if the vaccine was ready today it would be 2021 April before things will go back to “Normal” ( what ever that means). How many will refuse the shots? How many other things come up? How many Blue states will limit it just to get Trump? People need to go back to work—Kids need to go back to school.

There's no reason for the masks and social distancing. One college had about 150 kids get it. Not one had symptoms and not one was hospitalized.

I suspect new infections are because people aren't wearing masks correctly (or at all) or not social distancing. I see this often. Why am I looking at someone in a waiting room with their mask pulled down from their nose? You're in a place of sick people, elderly and infirm. You might have covid. They might have covid.

I see lots of younger adults and teenagers not wearing masks, I see many white women not wearing masks, many blacks not covering their noses and I see far too many chin straps across demographics. Don't be walking up on me with your mask down because you're on your cell phone.

Of the retailer I've visited recently, Walmart was by far the worst on mask & distancing non-compliance including workers. I see it sometimes in grocery stores but nothing compared to my Walmart experience. I didn't notice any issues at Target. When I had tires rotated, some of the guys in the bays were maskless but why is the guy in the air conditioned office pulling his mask down all the time around customers?

I don't like how Kemp has handled this in GA.

Excess Deaths this year are way up. 65+ people are 2 million of the normal 3 million who die each year in the US. We are on the way to a 15% increase in 65+ deaths this year.

BTW NY has about 10 deaths a day. Calif about 120. Texas about 120. Georgia 40-50.

I agree with you. Trump wisely pre-bought huge numbers of vaccines in case we get a good candidate so it'll just been the green light.

Unfortunately we'll have the push back from people who won't trust it because anti-vax (leftists) or because conspiracy theories (on the right) or because they don't like Trump (left & neverTrumpers).

I cannot believe the elected class are playing politics with the pandemic. There should have been another stimulus package already. They don't deserve to "lead" because they aren't leading, they're trying to advantage themselves.

He said the vaccine.

I asked if they were going to kick me out since I have no plans on getting vaccinated.

They are not comparable. Those are radically different viruses. We have Truvada and Descovy that can be taken daily to prevent HIV infection in people who can tolerate those meds. We also have a deep bench of therapeutics to keep most forms of HIV in line & under control.

If that's the case then why are California, Texas, and Florida the top 3 states in COVID cases? Why did we see the number of new cases peak in the middle of summer? At least the Spanish flu took the summer of 1918 off.
