Days after Sen. Ted Cruz was included on President Donald Trump's new list of potential Supreme Court nominees, the Texas Republican says that he does not want the job.

While Cruz noted that it is "humbling" to be included on the President's list, "it's not the desire of my heart," he told Fox Business News' Maria Bartiromo on Sunday.

"I want to be in the political fight," Cruz explained. "I want to be fighting to nominate and confirm three, four, five principled constitutionalist justices, but that's not where I want to serve. I want to stay fighting right where I am in the US Senate."

Good for Cruz, we cannot afford to give up any Senate seats, should have learned our lesson from Sessions.

Was surprised he would decline this but understand his desire to stay in the fight zone for the next four years especially.

Agree.

I think it’s just a formality. A hat tip, per se.

I think he’s more valuable in the Senate anyway.

Even though the governor is a Republican, who would be appointed xto succeed him if he went to SCOTUS (where I think he’d be excellent, BTW)? Undoubtedly, somebody not as good.

Ted Cruz would be an excellent Supreme Court justice, but there are a lot of excellent names on that list, and we need Ted where he is.

Nobody is going to put a nonjurist on the Supreme Court. There has been speculation that a Republican or Democrat president, would do this for years, but it hasn't happened, and it won't.

No matter how great a legal mind they were, they'd be at a distinct disadvantage. Coming up through the judiciary teaches you how to do this, and how to influence other judges.

So whether it's Ted Cruz, or Lawrence Tribe, et al, it's not going to happen.

If Cruz had gone into the judiary years ago, he might be a candidate for the Supreme Court, but he made other choices.

Not me. Any Senator who says he’d take it and then not get a nomination is setting himself up for failure. I want to see what he says if is actually offered to him.

Actually,he has presidential aspirations.

Yes. And he's just another lawyer when it comes down to that.

Cruz would have been great... that said choosing someone younger and NOT in the Senate works too.

Put Rand Paul on the Supreme Court as soon as Kentucky has a Republican Governor again.

Cruz could be WAY more effective as a SCOTUS justice.

As a Senator he has been largely ineffectual.

There has been speculation that a Republican or Democrat president, would do this for years, but it hasn't happened, and it won't.

Bush tried it with Harriet Miers, who was soundly embarrassed, exposed for her lack of even basic understanding of constitutional law, and subsequently withdrawn. Thankfully, we got Justice Alito instead.
