John Daly has been diagnosed with bladder cancer.
The five-time PGA TOUR winner was seeing a urologist about kidney stones when it was revealed that although the stones had dissolved, he had cancer.
Daly, 54, said he had undergone a procedure to remove the cancer as well as eight days of chemotherapy, and was hopeful and upbeat about treatment and recovery despite a strong likelihood of relapse.
"He said there's an 85 percent chance it comes back, Daly said. So I've got to go back and see him in three months. They will probably have to cut it out again. It's probably going to come back, and then another three months that you don't know. You just don't know. Luckily for me they caught it early, but bladder cancer is something that I don't know all the details. But it doesn't look like it may go away. We will just see what happens. Maybe there's a miracle."
"People who have had it, it's not the easiest thing with the catheter going in. ... That chemo going in there, it's pretty tough. But I'll see what happens in November. But those are eight days after that surgery that are just brutal, it's a brutal feeling, but I am tired."
Daly has been struggling with back pain, as well, which combined with the kidney stones has limited his PGA TOUR Champions starts. He is in the field for this weeks PGA TOUR Champions event, the Sanford International at Minnehana Country Club in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
"I'm cutting way, way back on the Diet Coke and counting minutes before I can have a cigarette," Daly told Golf Channel. "I'm trying to quit smoking. The doctors aren't saying it's too late. Unfortunately, it's a cancer that keeps coming back....

I don’t know who he is, but prayers up for himfor to be healed and for his family and best medical helps
Maybe he can try vaping, it was the easiest way to get off smoking, imo.
Good thoughts and good summary. I've got a few pieces of his Loudmouth apparel line.
Strange he wasn’t treated by the gold standard treatment for bladder cancer - as was my father when it was very experimental in about 1995 when he was in his early 80’s, when bladder cancer was 95% fatal.
Non-invasive, not harmful, they inject live tuberculosis germs in the bladder through the urethra regularly for a year or so. Then occasionally afterwards, then monitor.
My father’s bladder cancer was cured permanently and he went on with no re-occurances to live to 93 and die in his sleep of congestive heart failure.
I’ve known others who have had the same treatment more recently, with the same success. This treatment is said to be 90% or more successful.
Must have been something else going on here......
But then what do I know - I’m an engineer, not a medical person.......
Ugly disease my father had it lived 4 1/2 yrs with it died at 56.. i wish him well
Medicine doesnt care about treating you with the best solution
They have a middleman called insurance and another called hospital policy that comes up with a solution, not you
Engineering does
I am an engineer as well
John Daly was a very colorful character that played on the PGA tour. Won the PGA Championship in 1991 and The open Championship in 1995.
Daly is known primarily for his driving distance off the tee (earning him the nickname “Long John”), his non-country club appearance and attitude, his exceptionally long backswing, the inconsistency of his play (with some exceptional performances and some controversial incidents), and his personal life. His two greatest on-course accomplishments are his “zero to hero” victory in the 1991 PGA Championship, and his playoff victory over Costantino Rocca in the 1995 Open Championship.
Very well said. I too wish him the best. He truly was the outlaw golfer.
Wen to Vegas around 20 years ago and ran into him.
It was early afternoon and he was hammered. He sat at our $10 blackjack table (find one now!) whipped out his money and said I bet heavy and split 10s. If you dont like it leave because I dont want to hear about it.
Most of the table left. I stayed for the entertainment value.
That is a dude you can have a beer and a laugh with.
Kind of a weirdo but definitely one of a kind.
Exactly why I just had my prostate cancer “zapped” with non-invasive ultrasound that rarely has side effects, does not threaten nerve bundles and much more.....
TULSA-Pro - Trans Urethral Ultrasound Ablation, incredible device goes in urethra, chilled to prevent damage to it, and 15 tiny ultrasound transducers controlled by computer & doc ablate targeted cancer and prostate areas. Procedure actively monitored in MRI as it occurs, ensuring accuracy and precision. Yes - I was out for 3 hours. NO PAIN afterwards! Not a bit. Yes, restricted by a catheter for 2 weeks, but a minor inconvenience for the results.
Just FDA approved, and very expensive as it is not covered by insurance - but worth every penny.
Cannot recommend Dr. Stephen Scionti more highly - Sarasota, FL.
Your disparagement of my profession is laughably untrue. Please, if you can cure and heal disease, I will hand my service off to you tomorrow and feel free to round for me.
I am certain that each of us who took the oath indeed cares about our patients — and advocate for them daily in all areas.
I do not disparage your entire profession, please stop disparaging mine.
Disgusting.
Daly is an American professional golfer who has won one PGA Championship and one British Open, both majors and big deals in the world of professional golf. He has had alcohol problems, gambling problems, and I believe has been married four times and one of his exes was convicted of drug dealing and sentenced to federal time. He came out of nowhere from a little town in Arkansas and kinda turned the golf world on its head with his outlandishness, but his talent for the game could not be denied or ignored.
i was not talking to you
narcissistic sociopath
how about stop butting into others conversations unwelcomely
this is not your personal site and my comments when not directly addressed to you, have zero to do with you
go be a hurt snowflake somewhere else
go gaslight others somewhere else
Prayers up.
Wow. Cant be challenged can you. And I think you dont understand narcissism and sociopathy. The first clue to narcissism is projection and inability to take criticism.
Look in the mirror pal. You disparaged an entire profession and expect to not be challenged. You put it in the public domain. You cannot then decide to not want comments. Hint. Thats what private messaging is for.
Sorry if you dont like a response. But your overblown rant only demonstrates either your own insecurity or your inability to actually formulate an on point argument
Tell me one thing that I said that was incorrect. And I am happy to see you at bedside. You would piss your pocket protector of you actually had to put your life on the line to help others.
As an engineer you have no skin in the game. Convince me otherwise.
“I am certain that each of us who took the oath indeed cares about our patients”
You may assume about others, but no way you can be certain about anyone except yourself. It’s just a fact, you can’t be in every medical persons brain, know their reasons or thoughts for getting into the field.
I quit smoking after 30 years with vaping, OMG it was so easy to quit, NO smell, NO yellow film everywhere, had my teeth cleaned and they have stayed completely white, NO more horrible taste in my mouth vaping is an absolute God send!! I have NEVER once wanted to smoke another cigarette in four years whoever invented these e-cigs are saving countless lives!!!
I don’t know who invented it, and I’m not sure they would want it, but I would hug them to pieces. You’re right, easy peasy.
