What Life Is Like In California’s Post-Apocalyptic Landscape
The Federalist ^ | Sept 12, 2020 | Katya Sedgwick

Posted on 09/13/2020 6:55:36 AM PDT by libstripper

How is it not Armageddon, we mused, staring into the darkened sky. Or the ninth plague.

I woke up in the morning wondering about the dark red rays coming from behind the curtain. While I expected the darkened sky, the degree of darkness and the fact that I couldn’t smell fire surprised me.

Northern California fires have become increasingly common over the last decade as a consequence of mismanaging the environment. Native Americans staged controlled burns to safeguard their villages and create favorable hunting conditions. We failed to emulate that practice, and, as even Mother Jones concedes, so much fuel accumulated in the wilderness that megafires began burning year after year.

About a quarter to half mile visibility here in Reno.

All those years of forbidding removal of underbrush, not harvesting bark beetle killed trees, preventing controlled burns during the rainy season, etc. have really paid off!

Irony seems to be lost on liberals.

The Gov. signed a new law that makes it easier to be a pedophile, and suddenly the whole state was on fire.

Not just Antifa arsonists, though, there were lightning strikes all over, too numerous to cover them all.

What's next? Flaming hail and brimstone? Does God need to be that obvious?

No, Nancy, it's not Mother Earth, you did it to yourselves.

The rats are suddenly back on the global warming BS. They must be getting polling data that says people know that the idiots in Ca appeased the enviro lunatics and refused to clear cut and do controlled burns. The Ca Governor is blaming global warming for the fires and now we have the DNC back on the AGW BS.

Any human intervention in nature is BAD.

Especially any intervention with nature that could generate a Profit.

The left is worried about C02. Now they have plenty of it because of their idiotic environmental policies including forest mismanagement.

What's next? Oh ... probably the St. Andreas fault finally produces the big one, followed by an offshore quake and a tsunami, then a meteor strike on what's left of Los Angeles, and then three of the Cascades volcanos erupt simultaneously, taking out the Pacific Northwest.

It will all be Trump's fault.

Its not socialism here, quite, so much as the publics romantic delusions. Which eventually created an irrational bureaucratic monster.

This problem has been accumulating for over a hundred years. This goes back to the very beginnings of public land management. Maybe one can blame Walt Disney or Teddy Roosevelt, or Felix Salten (writer of “Bambi”), or who knows. All the people who projected their emotional fantasies on reality.

The California Utilities Commission bears much of the responsibility for the fires, as well. PG&E has tried to raise utility rates so that powerlines can be put under ground, but the CUC nixes that proposal so vulnerable lines are still exposed to being blown down by strong winds. Guv. Gavin Pelosi is fine with this, because, like a true leftist, he can blame PG&E for the on-going disaster rather than where the blame ought to be put, on the criminal mismanagement of the government of this state.

Its also Republican rot.

You can blame the CA Democrats for a lot, but this all goes back to way before Smokey Bear was on the drawing board of a NY advertising artist.

“Only you can prevent forest fires” was simply a pernicious message. Fires MUST burn.

Democrats...

...Refuse to build new gas or oil fired power plants and then surprised there is not enough electricity for the demand.

-—Refuse to build new dams and reservoirs and then are surprised when during a drought there is not enough water for the need of the people.

...open up the borders to illegals and pay for their care with tax payer moneys and then are surprised that there is not enough money to pay the bills.

-—shut down the economy and prevent normal commerce which adds to the state treasury and are surprised when no money is coming in.

The list is almost endless. Democrats have no clue how the real world works, they believe they can legislate UTOPIA into existence but reality is different. Anyone living in California right now just has to look out their window to see physical evidence of Democrats failure.

The Democrats have become the Communist party and will lead us into a socialist failed state if allowed to continue

There are simply too many miles of power lines in CA to be buried. The CA transmission and distribution grid is extraordinary in its extent, density, and ubiquity.

CA utility “obligation to serve” mandates are ridiculous. There are power lines all over the place, power lines to nowhere.

SOME can be buried, maybe some in particularly dangerous places. But there is an endless list of dangerous places.
