L.A. County walks back Halloween ban, says trick-or-treating ‘not recommended’

Less than a day after issuing new health guidelines that banned trick-or-treating and other Halloween activities, Los Angeles County public health officials walked back the decision Wednesday.

Citing an inability to maintain safe social distancing and the potential for gatherings beyond household members, county officials initially nixed trick-or-treating along with other Halloween traditions, including haunted houses and parades.

But Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said Wednesday that the guidelines have been “slightly revised.”

Ferrer said the change distinguishes between activities originally prohibited under the health officer order from activities that are “not recommended.”

Of course they can’t ban a liberal holiday. Halloween does not promote patriotic values or Judeo-Christian values; instead it teaches kids to go beg for something they did not earn, preparing them for an adult life where they will expect to receive things from the government.

New rules should be adopted to require all Dems to dress up as either vampires or mosquitoes (bloodsuckers).

Halloween activities that are still not permitted under the health order include carnivals, haunted houses, festivals, and live entertainment — as well as gatherings, events or parties with people outside your household.

Many popular annual activities, including the Disneyland Resort’s Oogie Boogie Bash, Knott’s Scary Farm and Universal Studios’ Halloween Horror Nights were all canceled weeks ago.

LOL, looks like I’ll have to stock up on candy after all.

I get about 400 kids that come by b/c two of my neighbors have elaborate displays set up and we get people by the busload coming through.

Don’t mind, I enjoy it all.

How did they figure out that this order would have been universally ignored so fast?

You sound like a very nice person. 😊 Last year I had a parent whose children I just treated thank me for participating in Halloween. I'll never forget it. He genuinely was happy his children were able to enjoy the evening.

Oh gosh, are they "allowing" Trick or Treating?

Will they be sending SWAT teams to round up children in their costumes if not?

What will they "allow" us to do next?

Keep voting Democrat.

That’s wonderful to hear and thanks for the compliment. I remember Halloween as a kid, going around to all the homes for candy, 99% of which were open. We were allowed to wear our costumes to school and there was a parade and costume contest on the playground. Such happy memories.

It was one of the best days of the entire year - even though my dad made us kids empty our loot in front of him while he picked out the best candy and treats for himself. The rest was locked away in a freezer and we were allowed one piece a day.

Still, one of the best things about my childhood and I’d like the tradition to carry on. My pup and I won a doggie costume contest a few years ago and it was one of the happiest days for me - I still have the dish towel I got for winning first place.

Wish candy weren’t so darned expensive, though.

Bet we're about the same age. Your experiences are much like mine. Next to Christmas Halloween was my favorite holiday. And we made it count. Lived in the suburbs and we hit every house on our side of town. A paper grocery bag half full. People would invite us in and try to guess who we were. Time consuming, we wanted to hit the street! Fortunately my dad didn't pick out our best candy. Mom let us keep everything because I guess she thought we had enough sense not to devour it all in one sitting. Little did she know. 😋 Congrats to you and pup on your contest win! Yup, candy isn't cheap! I try to do little bags but takes a lot to fill them up.
