Men raping men in the military has been going on a long time, even before gays were officially let in. I've seen the congressional hearings and internal investigations on this topic. I'd bet some of these deaths at Fort Hood were suicide due to shame.
That said, adding women and gays was absolutely the wrong policy, both from the sexual dynamics interference and because women can't physically be as effective as men.
Yes sexual abuse will always still occur everywhere. Recruiting and allowing open homosexuals makes it far more prevalent and gives them a platform for it. Also a power structure to protect themselves.
I was a female JAG officer in the Army. I put bad guys in jail. Worked out good.

Women can do the support jobs, and fighter pilots and such, maybe not infantry on average but truth is we have a volunteer military and not every man is interested in going to some shithole in SW Asia for a year, we have to make do.
