Any idea what happened to the 747 Air Force One plane? Is it under maintenance? This plane is NOT the 747. Thanks.

For smaller hops and smaller airports that may not be able to take on a fully-loaded 747, the Air Force has a whole fleet of other aircraft that can handle any need the President might have. And after all...ANY Air Force aircraft the President is on, whether it be a 747 or a Piper Cub, automatically has the callsign of ‘Air Force One’.

There are at least two “Air Force Ones.” The big one, a Boeing 747 requires a pretty long runway.

The smaller one, a 737, I think, is for shorter trips, or to airports with shorter runways, such as Latrobe.

Both have equivalent electronics, communications, etc.

The plane which the President currently occupies is designated “Air Force One.”

There are 2 Presidential 747 (AF 1). Usually located at Andrews AFB Va. Or one may be in Greenville TX for programmed depot maintenance.

The plane in the background appears to be the vice president designated plane (AF 2), a Boeing C-2 (a modified 757).

Perhaps since Latrobe PA is such a short hop from DC a decision was made to utilize the more efficient modified 757.

Trump uses the small version of Air Force One regularly for shorter flights — especially to smaller airports.
