SALEM, Ore. -- The Oregon Republican Partys statement for the state voters pamphlet arrived 29 seconds too late and wont appear in the guide mailed to voters for the November election, officials say.
Laura Fosmire, a spokeswoman for Secretary of State Bev Clarno, said deadlines apply equally to everyone.
Anyone wishing to submit information to the Voters Pamphlet has several weeks to do so and we recommend avoiding waiting until the last minute for this reason," she said in a statement.
But Oregon Public Broadcasting reports that Kevin Hoar, the communications director for the state GOP, insists the party did get its statement into an online filing system by 4:59 p.m. on Aug. 25, the final day for filing.
He said the party filed a lawsuit in Marion County demanding that the statement be included in the voters guide before it goes to print later this month.
We cant quite explain the interpretation and decision here by state elections officials, Hoar said.
State Republican Chairman Bill Currier said the failure to include his partys statement from the voting guide reeks of partisan discrimination.
...(snip)...
The statement submitted by the Republican Party was headlined Had enough? Vote Republican! It attacked Democratic leadership in Oregon on issues ranging from Unrestrained rioting in Portland to mismanagement of the pandemic resulting in catastrophic small business losses.
Hoar also said that Currier was locked out of the online filing system for several hours, delaying the partys ability to file its statement.
Fosmire said there were no problems or glitches with the online reporting system. (W)e simply received the statement after the filing deadline, she said.
The Democratic Party of Oregon and six other political parties are included in the voters pamphlet for the Nov. 3 election.

Ping for your Oregon list.
funny how there’s always a judge around to order polling stations to stay open longer or count this vote or that vote for whatever reason.....but not for this.
My guess if it was a Democrat item, 2 weeks late in the trunk of a car would be accepted.
As long as republicans keep making a stink about this, it works in their favor and the message will get out x10.
The panic is truly starting to set in.
But they want to accept votes received a week after the election.
Or for republicans
According to whose watch?
B-but the Democrat statement was written in crayon and on toilet paper!
29 seconds is 29 seconds.
Predictably, Oregon will ignore their deadline rule when the DNC gets tired of Biden/Harris polling numbers dropping like a rock and replaces them for the NOV 3 election... despite most states not allowing changes within 60 days of an election.
The Dems won’t allow a statement to be included because it’s 29 seconds late, yet will insist that mail in ballots received DAYS after the election be counted. Yea, that’s the Rats for you.
But to be on the bright side, the Rats have set a precedent.
True. This could backfire on the Rats
Just Democrat votes.
The GOP just has to point to this as precedent. Of course that won’t make any difference to a Rat judge who just makes up the law as he/she/it pleases.
Well...a precedent is set...bookmarking for election day 2020
Michael Moore is one of the small handful of libs I follow on Twitter and he put it best a week ago.
"Someone needs to pull the fire alarm NOW. Where are the stories about Trump gaining on Biden? Belows a poll from Fri in Michigan. Last week Trump pulled within 4 pts of Biden. Now in one poll Trump is AHEAD of Biden in MI 47-45. Yet so many Dems convinced Trumpll lose. DANGER!"
Well...lookee here....”Hoar also said that Currier was locked out of the online filing system for several hours, delaying the partys ability to file its statement.”
Deadlines didn’t matter when the Rats substituted Lautenberg for Torricelli. And it was much longer than 29 seconds, more like 2 weeks.
It already has, most people never read voter statements anyway. Now the dems have put it in the news.
