The only people that survived The Peshtigo Fire (2K died!) in Wisconsin and Michigan, which happened on the SAME DAY as The Great Chicago Fire were those that could make their way to Green Bay or local rivers while the fire raged all around them.
Scary! Prayers up for these people. I hope they are able to get to safety!

Peshtigo burned 680 times the area of the Chicago Fire, killed 6.67 times as many people, and did it all in one day, instead of three.
Still, Mrs. OLearys cow gets all the press.
As important as the building code improvements that came in the aftermath of the Chicago Fire, the lessons learned from Peshtigo had greater, long-term impact.
