Legendary college football coach Lou Holtz will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, President Trump announced at a White House press briefing on Friday.
Trump said the White House received letters of recommendation from several prominent figures across sports and politics, including University of Alabama head coach Nick Saban, Louisiana State University head coach Ed Orgeron and former Ohio State University head coach Urban Meyer. The president called Holtz an incredible leader who deserved the countrys highest civilian honor.
Ive known him for a long time. Hes a great friend of mine and I think Ive received letters from every football coach, almost, in the nation, Trump said.

Outstanding!
Up yours, Fake Notre Dame Catholics.
My oldest brother is a 1963 ND grad and he’s been disgusted with ND for many years.
All univerities will be demanding their coach to fess up and apologize in 5... 4... 3...
AWESOME PICK CONGRATS LOU!!!!!
A great fellow. I was lucky enough to have breakfast with him one morning, there were a total of four of us. He is a class act in private life as well.
Give it to Kyle, too!!
GREAT at last! Listen to the great forgetting POS COACH K From DUKE who now says - ‘we didn’t solve the race crises in the 70 & 80 & 90’s’...I say BS....we did many things on both sides and sacrifices were made and things were great until 2008 and NEW expectations and wounds were exposed and made by the instigator to make things rotten!
BUT for some reason now K wants to forget the PAST accomplishments Liberal DUKE mentality! Soldiers should stay out of politics!

EXACTLY!! You nailed it very well. Yes, we were doing fine and things were getting better until the Evil, America hating, Communist/Muslim/Community Organizer/Globalist bastard came on the scene.
But not with Lou.
Awesome choice. Lou has been more than a coach for this country. And he just lost his wife. I think God is smiling on this one.
Lou had some allergy problems and my brother treated him. They played golf a couple of times.
“President Donald Trump announced Friday that former Notre Dame coach Lou Holtz will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom, among the countrys highest civilian awards.”
Proof positive of what a truly compassionate man President Trump really is. President Trump gave a Medal of Freedom a short while back to General Jack Keane (contributor on things military on Fox Cable News TV). Besides being eminently qualified to receive the award, General Keane had just lost his wife of many years a few months before Trump nominated him for the medal.
Now Lou Holtz, a wonderful football coach of many years, who led Notre Dame’s team to Championship status, has also been nominated for the Medal of Freedom. Holtz is also extremely qualified to receive the Medal of Freedom for both his football career and his lifelong charity work. Lou Holtz also just lost his wife of many years a few months ago.
Now, as to the timing of giving these two men the Medals of Freedom. Mere coincidence that both had recently lost their lifelong marriage partners who recently died? I think not. Trump wanted to lessen some of their grief. Make them feel better, ease their pain and help them to overcome their loss along with honoring them for their stellar careers. I reiterate, President Trump is a compassionate man.
You make some great points and too few realize how compassionate he is. God bless Donald Trump.
We can not allow this good man to be defeated by the evil Democrats and their allies.
Nice to have those memories:
Yes. I knew my brother liked Lou Holtz but I had no idea that he knew Lou until he responded to the link on this thread which I had emailed him.
However, this list reads like it should be the "coach of the year" award rather than the Pres. Medal of Freedom which is given for "an especially meritorious contribution to the security or national interests of the United States, world peace, cultural or other significant public or private endeavors." Urban Meyer, Nick Saban....seriously
