In crackdown on Portland protests, state troopers are back, 'deputized' as federal officers. Why it matters.

As unrest has continued into a fourth month in Portland, a detachment of Oregon state troopers specially deputized to act as federal law enforcement agents has been sent to the city to help keep order.

The move, first reported by freelance journalist Deborah Bloom, allows them to bring suspects to federal courts for arraignment and prosecution, circumventing local prosecutors who are seen by some law enforcement agencies as excessively lenient with demonstrators.

Good description of why it's important to Federally deputize local LEOs. Allows the local people to take rioters directly to Federal Court under Federal statutes that are often a lot firmer than local rules and, especially, to avoid local, Soros influenced prosecutors.

The state police pulled out after the local prosecutor let all the arrested go, they knew they were wasting their time.

We are planning to go to Vancouver Washington which is right across from Portland on the Columbia River. I want to take my electric car on a road trip from California to Vancouver. We are going up the coast and avoiding Portland altogether. I am not particularly worried about violence, I just don’t want to support their economy even slightly.

A few thousand in jail would likely end their ability to disrupt society.

The local courts have been a revolving door. So, if they can get them turned over to federal jurisdiction, they may be able to clean the streets up finally.

The OSP were originally deputized so they could protect the courthouse. The reporting today makes it sound like it’s new.

But, since the recent shooting, those heading in will be able to use their Federal standing. They don’t have much confidence otherwise.
