Skernivitz had been sworn in as a member of the Violent Crime Task Force to work as part of Operation Legend this past Wednesday. The federal operation has aimed to crack down on violent crime in several major U.S. cities.
The chief described the shooting victim as an excellent member of the force.
The shooting unfolded in the west side of the city around 10 p.m., police union president Jeff Follmer told Fox 8.
The police officer had been riding in a patrol car that was fired upon several times, with the car crashing, sources told the station.
The officer died of his wounds after being transported to a hospital.

The more black lives Matters yells and screams the more there will be conflict between police and blacks. It is not good for anyone.
Do the black residents of these cities ever wonder what happens to all of the money that is distributed from Washington to their communities? Why are their cities dumps?
Are there many public housing projects in the city? How about Section 8? Not doubt this city has been a Democrat majority city for a long time. The god of the depression Franklin Roosevelt introduced public housing as if there are not builders who would like to build houses by themselves. This has to go. Spread the word.
