Did he invent the incandescent bulb? No. There were short lived bulbs and very expensive platinum filament bulbs before Edison.
Edison invented the practical incandescent bulb that was long lived and cheap enough to be useful. Joseph Swan in England got his patent at about the same time.
Edison's bulb was not a brilliant insight into physics. Instead, it was the result of hard work by Edison and his employees to take an interesting but not very useful device and make it usable.
