White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow opened up about his battle with alcohol and drug addiction during an event hosted by First Lady Melania Trump on Thursday.
Kudlow, 73, said it would have been unthinkable for him to occupy his current position 25 years ago, when he left his job as a Bear Stearns financial analyst and entered a 12-step program to deal with his dependence on booze and cocaine.
I was a hopeless abuser of alcohol and drugs. I had tried several times unsuccessfully to get sober, Kudlow said.
Like a lot of my peers and friends, I went through bloody hell and suffered significant consequences. I was unemployable.
Kudlow said that by the grace of God his wife Judith did not divorce him, and he was eventually able to get sober.
He celebrated 25 years of sobriety this June.

Well, it depends on the denomination, and Kudlow seems to be a former Reform Judaism type...

Court documents say Kudlow has become so desperate that he recently took $60,000 from his Individual Retirement Account at Bear Stearns, according to the New York Post and Wall Street Journal.
Mrs. Kudlow said her husband’s drug counselor thinks he “will probably overdose or die of a heart attack” if he has access to the money at Bear Stearns.
Supreme Court Judge David Saxe set a hearing for July 12 on the suit, which seeks to bar Kudlow and Bear Stearns from touching the money left in his IRA account. The amount was not specified.
Judith Kudlow said she wants to sell both of their Manhattan residences to pay for treatment of his cocaine habit and to pay off $150,000 of debts accumulated because of his addiction.

Good grief! Get over it. The man became a Christian. That’s apparently what’s really eating at you. One day, whether you like it or not, you will realize that Yeshua is the Messiah. I hope you believe in Him sooner rather than later, because, “Every knee shall bow, and every tongue confess, that Jesus Christ is LORD to the glory of God the Father” Philippians 2:11. Good for Larry.

Of course he did. It was a WH Recovery Month event. I’ve heard his story before. It is not new.
I was surprised at his story. Not just surprised but thrilled. My son is 6 months clean and climbing up from the hole. What an example this man is.
Good for Larry. I admire people like him who fight thru addiction and then lead by example. I feel the same about obesity. When I see someone who is overweight walking or jogging, I quietly cheer them on.
Hay malach or whatever you call yourself — why don’t you STFU! Just shut your pie hole if you can’t acknowledge Mr. Kudlow is a decent human being. Otherwise you seem like a person/s
