I don’t agree. Focusing people’s attention on foreign policy takes attention off domestic and nothing gets done to advance America at home. This was
what happened under Bush. It’s the way the dog principle. Foreign conflicts become a shiny object that distracts. We have so many urgent problems at home that our elites want us distracted from. One reason they’re so bad is that conservatives have been fixated on foreign policy for 20 years

Just because Rs use it as a shiny object doesn’t mean they CANT be done at the same time...it means they don’t want to.

I’m pretty sure we fought world wars in 2 theaters and managed to keep the mainland in good shape.

Anyway, I could be completely wrong. :)

If I Was that sharp I would be a millionaire and somewhere on a yacht instead of giving my useless opinion on a politics chat board at midnight on a Wednesday :)

have a good one man

You’re confusing foreign policy and domestic policy. Military actions are not domestic - this alliance is to maintain peace and restrain China’s unchecked expansionist goals. Right now, WE are the only thing holding them back.

Federalism. Remember our form of government??? National law enforcement is supposed to handle domestic terrorism.

The Philippines has almost no military, but they have wonderful naval facilities that we built - base the alliance at Subic Bay, thereby keeping that nation safe. This helps fence the PLAN into the South China Sea.

Without the Philippines in place, China is into the Pacific easily.

This was what happened under Bush

Forming a security alliance is a lot different than an unprovoked invasion of another country. A security alliance actually *reduces* the likelihood of conflict. Bush wasn't looking to reduce conflict the way Trump does by strengthening the military and forming alliances. Bush had already made up his mind to start a war. He was needed something to justify it to the American people.
