Florida dumps Quest lab for huge backlog of COVID-19 test results
Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel ^ | September 1, 2020 | Marc Freeman

Facing a COVID-19 data mess on Tuesday, Florida severed ties with national lab giant Quest Diagnostics, slamming the company for a previously unreported backlog of 75,000 test results from as early as April.

“To drop this much unusable and stale data is irresponsible, and Quest has abdicated their ability to perform a testing function in Florida,” the state Department of Health wrote on Twitter. The state also called the backlog a data issue that “does not impact the health of individuals or the spread of COVID-19 in Florida.”

Quest issued a public apology, noting there was a technical issue with reporting the results.

How very very CONVENIENT coming just a day after Florida reported the LOWEST daily increase in COVID-19 cases since mid-June. I call BS on this.

Occam’s Razor: Quest is in on the scam. They’ve been promised big government contracts Trump can be taken out with COVID.

“there was a technical issue”

So, it’s Google, Apple, Face Book’s fault?

I always liked LabCorp better.

That said, still a bit confused what the exact issue is? The wording seems confusing.

Government contract can very often mean license to steal and perform very poorly. Sue for all the money back.

We’re getting to the bottom of the pit. These ultra communists at Quest have been found out. Go back and do a spot check of their previous results and see how wrong they were.

The issue is that they had done these tests months earlier but didn’t report them and now dumped them on the FL health department, making it appear as if there was a significant recent “surge” in positives.

I can’t believe this was an accident.

Thx. I got a bit clearer reading through more, but still wasn’t sure. Like what was meant by “dump”. Generally speaking that means “trash” - throw away.

This seems to be a problem over the last month, hearing of this kind of “catch-up”.

It’s like a document dump...that is, when agencies or government authorities “dump” info into the press or public on Friday evenings so that nobody will know about it until Monday or maybe never. In other words, they time the release of information.

In this case the company - very Dem and very devoted to government money - wanted to control the release of information in order to make Florida look bad. Our governor, DeSantis, has been good and resisted shut down pressures. Some of the Dem or RINO mayors and county commissions, not so much. So they hate him and want it to look as if he has been completely “irresponsible” (their favorite word) by allowing as much as possible to stay open in Florida.

They also want to slow down the reopening of Florida and were announcing this “second wave” stuff a couple of months ago...didn’t happen, so they had to create it themselves.

Glad Florida took the contract away from them!

My 2 doctors use Quest. Wonder if they will choose Lab Core if I ask.

My 2 doctors use Quest. Wonder if they will choose Lab Core if I ask.

Neither my heart doc nor my gastro take blood samples any longer in their offices since Covid19, I get a generic lab request for xyz tests, much like a prescription, choice of lab is up to me, just as the pharmacy is. Happens to be the nearest LabCorp.

If your samples are still taken in the office, lab choice may be constrained by pickup contracts, maybe only one lab provides that service in your area.

Your post got me reminiscing.

My God, doctors aren’t doing the blood anymore! My first blood tests were always in the GP exam office.

Now, they send us somewhere else, except oncology which always does fast bloodwork right in the office before visit. (I have LOTS of specialists)

And even worse I swear since this “technology” obsession the last 5-10 years, now MOST of the doctors ask which you want....so I’m stuck having to choose right then and get a specific Rx. Few just give you a generic order.

There are BIG problems with CoV-19 test result turnaround. Unacceptable delays. Nobody should have to wait 17 days to know whether positive or negative (happened to a friend of mine, who was positive). If the source is primarily Quest Labs, then don’t use them.

Sounds like what happened in California in early August when a "technical glitch" delayed reporting of flu test results that resulted in the firing of the state health director (although the "official version" reports she resigned due to "burn-out" in dealing with the "pandemic").

This gave Tyrant Newsom and his new far-Left director the opportunity to ... uh ... "massage" the numbers which gave the Tyrant a "good reason" to reclassify much of California -- including even the outlying, thinly populated rural counties of the state -- as experiencing a "widespread outbreak" of the flu -- a classification no different than for LA or SF.

Just Little Gavin doing his part to help the America/American-hating Democrat/Left Party keep the charade going to the first Tuesday in November, y'know!
