interestingly....I think Trump has effectively enacted a lot of what Jack Kemp wanted to do.
He was ahead of his times, I think. No one really saw things the way he did once he was gone....certainly not paul ryan who became just a little toady for the left.
In many ways, Kemp sort of transcended the traditional left/right divide, and established a new way of right thinking.
He was a good man, and strangely, for an ex-pro athlete, he was one of the more well-read elected officials.
I think Trump the great American sledgehammer has knowingly or not, enacted much of Kemp’s program (and even more so, with prison reform) and I think it’s amazing.
It’s just Trump being Trump. He does not believe in defeatism or the words, it can’t be done. Or, any such concept. He believes firmly in, where there’s a will there’s a way.
Ryan, believe it on not was a Kemp understudy. I expected better of him.
Back in 1988 I had an official picture of Kemp hanging up at my laboratory workbench, just as a conversation starter, when he was running in the primaries.
Some may have a memory of one of those primary debates when Kemp declared straightforwardly -- "If George Bush is elected President, the Reagan Revolution is dead."
How right he was.
