A House Divided
Steyn On-line ^ | August 29, 2020 | Tal Bachman

There must be something wrong with me.

The fireworks closing off the Republican National Convention were sensational. The music was inspiring. The speakers throughout the entire convention did well—no major screw-ups that I saw. The stories worked. And through it all, Trump and his proxies articulated a clear case for re-election. As conventions go, it felt like a success.

And yet as the last firework fizzled out, some melancholy seized me, and I wondered if the real story of the week wasn't the convention at all, or the upcoming debates, or even the winner of the 2020 election. I wondered if the real story was an irrevocable, worsening rupture no election victory could cure.

After all, it's one thing for citizens to differ on a sales tax initiative or what to name the new highway. It's another for them to differ, and differ deeply, on whether it's okay to murder full-term newborn babies, burn down buildings, or release hordes of violent criminals to the streets to resume their psychopathic predations. And as it happens, the clash between the rival world views underlying those disagreements has spawned nightly, real-world battles—complete with actual casualties—within a country called the United States.

The truth is, there's nothing particularly "united" about the United States these days. Even basic perceptions now differ.

Stein tells it like it is, in my opinion-Option 3 is my choice-I’ve been waiting for the revolution since I was 14, and I still hope to see and be part of it happening just that way...

I don’t think liberals would have to be removed from conservative states-they would probably put their homes on the market and vacate their apartments and businesses in short order to go re-start in what they believe will be their socialist utopia-no pushing necessary-but conservatives still in the new USSA-or whatever they’d call it when it forms-would likely have to carefully withdraw/hide most of their assets over time, etc and get out quietly in the dark of night, making a run for the border to avoid a massive exit tax or confiscation of their businesses and other assets.

The new socialist elites will be happy with all the incoming liberal sheep to cram into highrise flats in the cities, rule over, decide where they will work and confiscate money and taxes from them as payment for all the “free” govt stuff for awhile-but sooner or later they’ll run out of their captives’ money and property and be looking around for more to steal-also, eventually some of their new peasant class is going to realize they will never have a dacha at Malibu or the Hamptons-they’ll just pay for the ones the elites have, and they’ll want to leave-so our republic better keep a strong border and a large well trained military...

You’ve got the right target, M Kehoe.

Google “45 goals”

It’s amazing what the communists have done right under our noses over the last 60 years to set up this final battle.

We must all give DJT a smashing victory on November 3rd by voting STRAIGHT REPUBLICAN.

The big problem with a national divorce where states are divided by ideology is what happens to all the leftists living in red states and all the conservatives living in blue states that are designated left or right only.

That would be the largest movement of people in history. Fortunes would be lost.

Having said that; it may be the best option because the only real other option is CW II which would leave a lot of people on both sides dead and in the end the separation would likely happen anyway so just do it up front and not allow movement to and from without good reason and for only short periods of time.

Of course all illegals would have to move to blue areas or move back to their home countries. The dems may not want them if they can’t use them for votes though they may only have no choice but to go home.

Sadly it would be the end of the great experiment and the end to the greatest nation ever to be established on earth all because of the insidious leftist ideology. Such a toxic ideology.

Yes, it's possible some great man could rise and rule with wisdom and equanimity, notwithstanding his insulation from democratic accountability.

When was the last time that happened, if ever?

The rest of us would be quite happy.

The rest of us would likely have to split into two or three separate entities in order to be quite happy.

Yes. A lot to be fearful of, coming our way. The nuclear family is already messed up, and now relatives are pitted against each other over politics. The monetary system is near collapse. A lot of business is shut down due to Covid-19 fears and policies. Housing is too expensive and homelessness is rampant. Now we have crazy anarchists making life miserable for decent Americans. President Trump will ease the pain when he gets re-elected. But the left is hell-bent on making crises continue.

All hell is going to break loose. Question is, when and how soon?

Only in the fairly tales of King Arthur...

Going back to a dictatorship is not an option though. Little to no chance of upward mobility. A set station in life generation after generation.

Sounds like hell to me.

“... but what is the alternative?”

In my opinion, there is alternative to the total physical destruction of the Left. No communist revolution has ever been defeated without force and the elimination of the Marxist adherents from this worldly plane. They allow no other option, no other compromise will they allow.

Our “fellow countrymen” must be physically defeated and removed, or they will enslave us...at best.

I have a much deeper understanding of this now than when i studied history.

Lets get the fight started and over with.

That national glue that bonds is no longer there thanks to the Left’s cultural revolution and unchecked immigration.

And yet my Taiwanese husband, and my Indian- and Thai-American friends still understand and believe in limited government as laid out in the US Constitution. I don't think you can blame race or immigration when a good number of native-born white Americans are ignorant of their own country's history and are happy to give the candidate of their choice unconstitutional powers, just to "own" the other side.

If Trump wins he’s going to have to make some terribly difficult decisions and take actions that are going to incite widespread rage and increased polarization.

Closest precedent to what President Trump is going through would be Lincoln and the election of 1860. The Left was shell shocked in 2016. But this time around, there will be tremendous violence.

We’d probably have to build some more walls to keep them from sneaking back in.

Indeed we would.

IMO, Option 1, much, much smaller federal government is the only peaceful way to avoid a bloody civil war.

The only avenue I see there would be The Convention of The States. We can agree that Washington, i.e. the federal government, is not going to reform itself. Term limits for legislators, and judges, and a host of other reforms, have to come from the outside.

“ Term limits for legislators, and judges, and a host of other reforms, have to come from the outside. ”

Then it will have to be imposed at the point of a spear...by an army. A convention of the states will not solve a division this stark. No agreement on anything, or even any process, is possible. This has to be solved with bloodshed, copious bloodshed. Communists allow no other kind of solution.

Look at them now, even in this early day, they are out in the streets itching for extreme violence...they want it so badly. They think we will be easily cowered. They know that they will stop at nothing, the more brutal the better to them. They think we want our easy lives and they want nothing but destruction - they are the sickest people ever created by a very sick society.

There is only one answer and it’s not one for the faint of heart.

Sadly, I think you are correct. The Marxist Left, globalists, Deep State coup plotters, etc. are all in. They will not give up the power they have assumed and intend to crush us all. It will get much worse. The scenes around the White House as Republicans tried to leave the ceremony were appalling. The DC police were there in very limited numbers and there was wholly inadequate security to keep the feral monsters away from civilized people for instance..

That’s a good way to put it. This time the Left will be using shells to shock. They are totally unhinged and extremely dangerous.

Your opinion is based on personal experience that is anecdotal. Empirical data (National Bureau of Economic Research) clearly shows that immigration to the U.S. has a significant and negative impact on the Republican vote. Do your objective research and then get back to me when you have data to support your conclusion.

I do agree with you that many native-born white Americans are ignorant of their own country’s history and are happy to give the candidate of their choice unconstitutional powers. That’s easy to substantiate as 33% of registered voters in this country are Democrats, 29% as Republicans. The Dems have the edge in terms of pure numbers.
