Vancouvers Old Apple Tree, believed to be the oldest apple tree in the Pacific Northwest, has passed into history.
Its death was announced Saturday. It was 194 years old.
Dying leaves suddenly appeared throughout the tree last week, which prompted the citys Urban Forestry staff to do a quick checkup. Arborists then conducted a thorough evaluation, and they found that the vascular system or cambium layer of the tree which transports water and nutrients to the canopy had shut down. Charles Ray, urban forester with the city, said this was largely attributed to a spiral crack in the trunk expanding. Hot weather exacerbated the problem.

Thats a cool story, partially verified by the fact that the apples are of English origin.
This storys two months old, but I just heard it on the radio, so....
Trumps or Bushs fault, no doubt.
The smoke from the nightly Portland riots caused it’s sudden demise.

AKA Johnny Appleseed?
“vascular system or cambium layer of the tree had shut down”
Is this equivalent to a tree having a stroke?
Note to self: Don’t morph into an apple tree. Maybe a redwood. But a jellyfish or a sponge would offer more freedom and live longer.

10 pioneer-era apple varieties, thought extinct, found in Pacific Northwest, Los Angeles Times, April 14, 2020
The northwest is FULL of fruit trees. My great grandparents ran a fruit orchard operation in Creston, BC for about 50 years. Right now the peaches are at the peak of perfection in Eastern Washington north of Spokane. Yum. Apples will be ripening soon, too.
What do you call an apple tree autopsy?
I'll bite, what?

How many of us do you figure are still around that remember the Andrews Sisters and their great music.
Some of my favorites:
Rum and Coca Kola
Bei Mir Bist Du Schon
In Apple Blossom Time
Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy
They were all great but just some of my favorites, then throw in Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman and you have some of the greatest music and singing ever to come out of the United States.
Well, I hadn’t intended a REAL reply, but “apple core” might have worked!
;)
I thought about that when I posted it.
Don’t morph into an apple tree with anyone else but me.
