Herschel Walker powerfully sticks up for Trump but misconstrues protesting athletes
CNN ^ | August 25, 2020 | Brandon Tensley

Posted on 08/25/2020 2:19:06 PM PDT by MarvinStinson

It was a night of revisionist history as Republicans kicked off their Convention with the theme of "honoring the great American story."

Apparently, that story involves a President who's definitely not a racist, as former NFL player Herschel Walker, former US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley and the Senate's only Black Republican, Tim Scott, repeatedly emphasized. (You're forgiven if you're thinking: "Doth protest too much.")

But that "great American story" doesn't include ... protest.

"Just because someone loves and respects the flag, our national anthem, and our country doesn't mean they don't care about social justice," Walker said. "I care about all of those things, and so does Donald Trump. He shows how much he cares through his actions. And his actions speak louder than any stickers or slogans on a jersey."

Walker spoke on a night featuring speakers intent on downplaying the idea that Trump is a racist. Necessary maneuvering, given how the President has responded to a season shaped by Black Lives Matter demonstrations.

Indeed, Walker took a thinly veiled swipe at the protests. But like other detractors, he warped the situation -- and even ignored history.

As a whole, athletes are protesting police brutality against Black Americans -- how racism can take easy refuge in a system that often fails to hold officers accountable for the racial violence they inflict.

"I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses Black people and people of color," Colin Kaepernick said in 2016. "There are bodies in the street and people getting away with murder."

Evidently, Walker and his ilk are aggrieved more by players' support for racial justice than by the at times dangerous behavior of agents of the state, and thus level slippery accusations of disrespect.

As expected. The MSM has been spending time since the end of the RNC taking down the speakers, one by one.

I love when I am told that what someone said isn’t really what he said.

I listen to Walker. He was impressive.

The author probably doesn't even realize how clearly he makes Walker's point for him.

Yes, but anyone with any sense who saw Mr. Walker or any of the other speakers last night - on cspan with no commentators - just the awesome speeches - are not listening to the liars in the MSM.

I listened late into the night to the cspan callers. For some reason they were letting the callers come in without dividing them up as they usually do. They came in by the truckload favorable to the RNC.

Brendon Tensley can't read plain English. Kaepernick is expressly blaming the country and refusing to honor the flag. Brendon is an idiot.
