My hubby arrived at Subase New London in 1972. We still live a mile from the base.

Yeah, I remember thinking about that too. I ended up living many years in New England after that Navy - married a northerner. I used to think grinders were toasted subs, but it turns out it was just regional dialect.

My boats are all razor blades now, so I have begun to open my mouth about things that have been sealed for 35 years.

We just missed each other.

It’s a small world, somewhere around 20 years later a new man at my work was placed in the cube next to me. I overheard him a few months later talking on the phone to someone about my boat. He had been stationed on it 10 years after me.
